V/W/X/Y/Z Archetypes
Jesus christ, doesn't that mean that every card with either "V", "W", "X", "Y" or "Z" in its name will be part of these archetypes? Or do capitals matter? Even then, cards like "The Agent of Creation - Venus" are a part of it...--YamiWheeler (talk • contribs) 12:14, May 15, 2013 (UTC)
- Never mind, just realized what a massive fail I am. It's rendered in English in the card text of "Hyper Coat". xP--YamiWheeler (talk • contribs) 12:15, May 15, 2013 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) I know your reply kinda obviates the need for this comment, but I already had it typed up and it seems a waste to just trash it... =D
- I don't think there's ever been a situation where capitalization has been important for archetype classification, but I'm going with "yes it does" for this case. And yeah, every card with "V", "W", "X", "Y", and "Z" (or, rather, "V", "W", "X", "Y", and "Z") is a member of these archetypes. I'll be tagging all the members myself, assuming no one else pitches in, so the amount of work this creates is a non-issue. On the subject of simply having these archetypes separate, though, the only reason we don't already is because no one realized that "Hyper Coat" actually supported each letter separately until well after the overarching series was documented, and then no one felt like going through the trouble of properly updating our documentation of the whole thing. It's been bugging me pretty much since the day the whole thing was brought up, though, and I've already discussed it with the other main admins; no one else was opposed to it. That being said, if you object, I'd love to hear your reasoning. =) 「ディノ奴千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 12:23, May 15, 2013 (UTC)
- Oh, no, no. I don't object. I just looked at it and was like "Whoa. What a pain in the ass." but it actually isn't that bad, considering very few cards in the OCG have "V", "W", "X", "Y", or "Z" in their names. Also, as an example where capitalization matters in archetype classification, "HERO" is one.--YamiWheeler (talk • contribs) 12:31, May 15, 2013 (UTC)
- "HERO" is a case of it for the TCG, but as far as I'm aware, there is no case in the Japanese game where it comes in to play, and that is ultimately the only thing that matters for archetype classification (even the English "HERO" archetype being case-sensitive is ultimately only a reflection of the Japanese archetype support). And yeah, there aren't too many cards affected here, but there are still more than a few, so I'm gonna have to see if I can figure out how to have my bot add the archetype tagging. 「ディノ奴千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 12:50, May 15, 2013 (UTC)
I don't mean to budge in, but do you really have to do this? I understand the reasoning behind it, but it's just a little annoying to see all these cards to be a part of those archetypes. It's like the knight archetype, but I could understand that one a little more than this.--Computer Bug (talk • contribs) 17:23, May 15, 2013 (UTC)
- Strictly speaking, no, this isn't necessary, and we could get by without it just as we have up to now. But this is how we document archetypes, and VWXYZ was an exception to this that (as I mentioned above) always bugged me after I learned about it. I can understand how you may not necessarily care for properly documenting this now, but the concerns you raised aren't really big enough to change my mind on the matter. If you've got other reasons against it, though, I'm all ears. =) 「ディノ奴千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 18:00, May 15, 2013 (UTC)
- Well the card that is causing this whole ordeal is an anime-only card created before it was confirmed that even if a card has a archetype name in 1 word of it's name it is part of that archetype.--Computer Bug (talk • contribs) 18:14, May 15, 2013 (UTC)
- the fact that the card predates our understanding of the underlying mechanics of archetypes really doesn't weigh into whether it's worth documenting these archetypes separately. Archetypes have worked the way they do since they were first introduced, quite apart from how we've documented them at any given point in time. And this isn't really much of an ordeal to properly document the archetypes - I'm the one who did most of the work to do so, and it's completely finished now, so the only person whose time I might have appreciably wasted in this is Cheesedude's, since he helped in tagging some of the cards (though (at the risk of putting words in his mouth) I doubt he'd consider it a waste of his time, either; he was on board with this from the beginning). 「ディノ奴千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 18:25, May 15, 2013 (UTC)
- Hey Dinoguy, sorry to barge in on a conversation that finished two months ago, but I've noted a bit of an inconsistency issue relating to this archetype. The way it's been documented is ok, I don't have any major issue with it, but if we're doing it this way (selecting this archetype's members purely on the presence of "V", etc in their name, since that's all that was listed on "Hyper Coat"), then shouldn't we do the same thing for "Block Lock"? It only mentions the letter "D" in its text, with no kana to distinguish it, just like "Hyper Coat". So to keep the wiki consistent, we would either need to modify the 'Hyper Coat archetypes' (list only "V" cards with the kana ヴィ (vi) used on "V-Tiger Jet, etc), or create an entirely new archetype for "Block Lock" which includes not only the "Morphtronics", but also things like "D - Chain", "Destiny End Dragoon", "Ally of Justice Quarantine", etc. What do you think we should do? Rebster6 (talk • contribs) 16:51, July 2, 2013 (UTC)
- That's true, but anime cards don't ever specify furigana. In the episode it was used in, Rua says it works with "Deformers", not any "D" card. A similar case was "Heraldic Beast Twin-Headed Eagle". Based on its anime text alone, it could support either "Heraldic" or "Heraldry". We know from the dialogue that it was meant for "Heraldry". Cheesedude (talk • contribs) 17:03, July 2, 2013 (UTC)
- In the case of "Hyper Coat", I put some consideration into whether to include furigana or not, especially considering that would have affected what cards were tagged as members. In the end, I decided not to, because "VWXYZ-Dragon Catapult Cannon" has the furigana "ヴィトゥズィ" (Vi to Zi), meaning it would have been excluded from the "W", "X", and "Y" archetypes. There is no such concern with "Block Lock" as far as I can tell, and as Cheesedude says, dialog clearly identifies the cards it actually works with. Basically, this was a case where we ignored SOP because the circumstances demanded it. =) 「ディノ奴千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 17:12, July 2, 2013 (UTC)

Quick question
Is there any way to make comments on the edit page. When I learned programming if you wanted a line ignored you might comment it out rather than deleting it when you are trying to debug and find a problem and it would be nice to put items on a page into predetermined sections and leave instructions on how something new should be entered.
Glittersword Talk • Contributions 03:21, June 24, 2013 (UTC)
- Yep, you can make a comment in HTML (and by extension wikimarkup) with
<!-- -->
- simply put the comment between the tags, and it gets ignored by the parser and by browsers. - If you're curious, comments in CSS and JS work slightly differently: you use
/* */
to denote a comment in CSS, and in JS you can use//
for a single-line comment (browsers ignore everything from the slashes to the end of the line), or/* */
for a multi-line comment. - Hope this helps! =) 「ディノ奴千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 06:16, June 24, 2013 (UTC)

- I can see the logic in your changes, definitely, but I don't think liberal use of comments is really the way to improve readability on card pages for editors. Part of the rollout for the new card page layout will be changing how the parameters are shown when editing a card page; like parameters will be grouped better, with a newline of separation between groups, and whitespace will be used somewhat more liberally (specifically, aligning the equals signs and some other tweaks - this actually improves readability a surprising amount). I've gone ahead and removed the comments and excessive newlines, but I did leave your other changes alone. =) 「ディノ奴千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 23:37, June 24, 2013 (UTC)
- No problem, if you are working on something that will make this a useless and overwritten excersize. However I liked the seperation in the lore better the way I had it for the reason that they tend to be such long portions that it is visually hard to see where one ends and the next begins. It looks like one big text block. to the computer it might read the same but to eyes like mine it can be a pain. (After all my M1 eyeballs are on their way to being 50 yrs old and might be past their warranty period.) Glittersword Talk • Contributions 01:01, July 8, 2013 (UTC)
- While it may not perfectly reflect how the redesign will work, you can see a preview of the updated style at http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Forum:Card_article_redesign/sandbox?action=edit§ion=1 . In particular, we may end up inserting blank newlines between lore parameters in cases where cards have longer lores, if omitting the blank newlines makes editing difficult (as it currently does), even with the extra whitespace before the equals signs. =) 「ディノ奴千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 15:47, July 8, 2013 (UTC)

Uhh I know your an admin... but ahh umm; in relevence to http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Blue-Eyed_Silver_Dragon?redirect=no "this is a redirect, not an article; there is no harm in keeping the redirect", doesn't this wiki follow the Wikipedias deletion policy? although I am probably misinterpreting //Just curious; I don't doubt your validity, just unsure of why your right.. - Generally speaking, we do, but even on Wikipedia, deletion of redirects does not follow the same logic. Which countries have official names
Is there a list of which countries actually have the possibility of Official Names versus countries where it is guaranteed to be unofficial. For example Gladiator Beast Darius has two ptname lines so I think it would be fairly safe to conclude that there is no official verified source for it and is unofficial. (Both Fera and Besta translate into Beast)
BTW, I was just wandering around in the New Images list and I think you might want to take a look at File:Number88GimmickPuppetofLeo-JUMP-EN-UR-LE.png someone posted a beautifully clear image and then reverted it back to this huge monstrosity of a file. - There is no exhaustive list as far as I know, but I can name off some from the top of my head: the OCG and TCG have official releases in Japanese, Korean, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese (discontinued until just recently), and Chinese (though only three Chinese cards have actually been printed, all very early in the OCG); the anime has official releases in at least Japanese, Korean, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Greek, Croatian, and Arabic; the manga likely has a similar list of languages with official releases; and video games, when released internationally, are normally released in Japanese, Korean, English, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish, at least as far as I know.
- The smaller version of "Gimmick Puppet of Leo" is an unofficial proxy image and never should have been uploaded. 「ディノ奴千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 07:04, July 10, 2013 (UTC)
- The "other networks" portion of the infobox on Yu-Gi-Oh! (second series anime) has an incomplete (and unsourced) list of countries the anime is shown in, many of which are dubbed in their local language. Same with other anime and manga series infoboxes. Although some, such as the Swedish anime, as far as I know, use English names, even when the dialogue is translated. -- Deltaneos (talk) 07:31, July 10, 2013 (UTC)

Another Question
Why is it there are some pages that if I want to view the source the system wants me to log in again (I am logged in) and after I do it sends me back to the page and not to where I can see the source. - In the case of templates, it may be because they are transcluded on {{CardTable2}}, which is protected with cascading protection (this just means that anything that is transcluded onto it is automatically protected). Other than that, I couldn't say what might cause the software to ask you to log in when you already are, to view the source of pages that aren't protected. 「ディノ奴千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 19:24, July 13, 2013 (UTC)
Miscellaneous Artwork
This might be a late idea for you but have you considered another gallery type for the images that are uploaded on the Card Artwork and Card Gallery pages that are not actually for the "Cards". I mean images such as Video Game Screenshots. Maybe something like "Miscellaneous Images Gallery". As it is I can't decide which should take priority. The Card Gallery should just be for the whole card images (Manga/Anime/Video Games as long as it is a picture of a card) and the Card Artworks Gallery should be just for Artworks used on those cards. Just not pictures of the monsters Summoned (Holographic or what not) Just the Image in the center of the cards. Anything else should go to the Miscellaneous gallery.
Just an Idea.
Glittersword Talk • Contributions 21:42, July 14, 2013 (UTC)
- Card galleries are meant for any images where the pictured card is the primary subject, and illustrating that card is the image's primary purpose (the second criterion is to help prevent flooding galleries with dozens of anime screencaps featuring a given monster, for example). This explicitly includes video game screenshots, images showing the monster(s) featured in a card's artwork as a character(s) (non-card images), and the like.
- The Card Artwork pages are meant only to illustrate, in cases where a card has had more than one artwork, its different artworks. The reason we use Tag Force images for this purpose when possible is because we only need to show the artwork itself, the card frame and other non-artwork features being superfluous, and Tag Force artworks give us images that are already exactly what we need and nothing more, and furthermore give them to us at high resolution, allowing much easier visualization of more minor artwork differences.
- Furthermore, the current plan is to consolidate the current gallery namespaces into a single "Gallery" namespace at some point; when this happens, if we had split card galleries as you suggest, we'd just end up having to merge them again, or else find something else to do with them.
- Hope this helps! =) 「ディノ奴千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 23:35, July 14, 2013 (UTC)

- "Mirage" doesn't have any furigana listed; the image we have doesn't show its name and I don't know how its name was pronounced in dialog (if it was spoken at any point). The furigana in the image for "Chirp Force" is too blurred to be sure that it's "se" instead of "ze", and again with the pronunciation. You have a point with "Number 3" and "Suiminmin", though, so feel free to remove the furigana again (and in the future, if you see a use of {{Ruby}} without any furigana, you can just remove the whole template, leaving only the kanji). =) 「ディノ奴千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 21:09, July 21, 2013 (UTC)
