Tribute (known as Release in the OCG, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's and Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL animes, previously known as Sacrifice in OCG, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX animes) is the one of the acts that make a monster the player controls leave the field, sending it to the Graveyard as a result. Usually reference to a card bing sacrificed for another card or effect.

Unless a card specifically states that you can Tribute monster in your hand or monster under your opponent possession, you can only Tribute monster you control on the field.

Monsters can only be Tributed either for Tribute Summons, or by a card that use "Tribute" as a term of this act [note].

Notes

^ Cards which involved Tributing formerly worded it as "offer as a Tribute", "Tributing" and "Tributed" are not actually words. This practice was eventually stopped.
