Deck cutting in the manga

After one shuffles their Main Deck before a Duel, they must hand it over to the opponent for a shuffle, and a procedure known as a cut. To cut a deck, one must gently take small stacks from the Deck, and put them back in a different order.

When Yami Yugi and Arkana dueled, Arkana trimmed the edges of his "Dark Magician" cards so that when Yugi cut his deck, he would inadvertently cut it at the point where the "Dark Magician" would be on top of a small stack, ensuring that one of the card would be at the top of the entire deck. Yugi, however, saw through this strategy due to Arkana using the card-damaging "shotgun shuffle" and devised a counter against it.
