A Ritual Summon (儀式召喚 Gishiki Shōkan) is the act of Special Summoning a Ritual Monster that is conducted through the effect of a Ritual Spell Card. These Summons usually require Tributes greater than or equal to the Level of the monster being Summoned from your side of the field or your hand. These Tributes are treated as a Card Effect rather than a Cost. However, some cards, such as "End of the World" require them to have the exact Level requirement. With "Advanced Ritual Art" you can send Monsters from your Deck to the Graveyard instead of your hand or Field. "Gishki Photomirror" does not require Monsters to be Tributed, it requires 500 Life Points x the Level of the Ritual Monster.

A Monster that was properly Ritual Summoned can be Special Summoned from the Graveyard unless otherwise dictated by the card's text.

How to Summon a Ritual Monster

1. To Ritual Summon a monster, you must have the Ritual Monster (obviously), the corresponding Ritual Spell Card, monsters that can be Tributed (matching at least the Level of the Ritual Monster) -all in your hand and/or Field- and an empty Monster Card Zone (before or during the Ritual Summon).

2. Activate the Ritual Spell Card.

3. Tribute the appropriate Monster(s) from your hand or Field.

Warning 1 : If you don't have an empty Monster Card Zone when activating the Ritual Spell Card, you MUST Tribute at least 1 Monster from the Field.

Warning 2 : You CANNOT Tribute more Monsters than necessary. For example, you're attempting to Ritual Summon a Level 8 Monster and you have 2 Level 4 and a Level 9 Monsters ; you MUST Tribute the Level 9 Monster! But, if you have 1 Level 7, 1 Level 1 and 1 Level 2 Monsters, you can either Tribute the Level 1 OR the Level 2 Monster in addition to the Level 7 Monster but NOT all three of them.

4. Ritual Summon the Ritual Monster from your hand.
