When attacking a monster
When a monster attacks another monster, the damage inflicted and the monsters(s) that would be destroyed are calculated based on the following rules:
If B is in Attack Position Compare ATK of A with ATK of B | |
---|---|
A < B |
|
A = B |
|
A > B |
|
If B is in Defense Position Compare ATK of A with DEF of B | |
A < B |
|
A = B |
|
A > B |
|
When direct attacking
When a monster performs a direct attack, the attacking monster inflicts battle damage to its opponent equal to its current ATK. If the attacking monster has 0 ATK, it does not inflict battle damage (as opposed to inflicting 0 battle damage).
Interactions with effects
- Card effects can make monsters change their ATK/DEF during damage calculation. (e.g. "Cyberdark Edge")
- Card effects can make monsters inflict piercing battle damage; if a monster with piercing attacks a Defense Position monster, and its ATK is higher than the attack target's DEF, then it inflicts battle damage to the attack target's controller, equal to the difference between its ATK and the attack target's DEF.
- Card effects can make monsters apply their DEF for damage calculation, even when the situation normally applies the monster's ATK for damage calculation.
