A face-up Monster Card

Face-up (おもてがわひょう Omotegawa Hyōji "Face-up-displaying") is a position in which the card face is visible. A card that is face-up on the field or the top of the Deck or that is banished face-up may be freely examined by either player at any time.

Continuous Monster Effects only apply while the monster is face-up on the field. Many cards must be face-up on the field to activate their effects.
