A card leaves the field, formerly known as being removed from the field, when it is moved from the field to a different place. Cards that are attached as Xyz Materials are no longer treated as cards on the field.[1] However, they are not considered to leave the field, they just stop being treated as actual cards on the field.[2]
As of September 1st, 2011, when a card on the field is moved into the Main Deck, that card cannot "activate" its “leaves the field” effect.[3][4] However, if the “leaves the field” effect has no Spell Speed, it will still applied.[5]
Any effect whose condition involves leaving the field will not activate or apply if the card leaves while face-down.
