Just like "[[Yokai]]", it is unclear how Snake monsters are identified in the manga. The Japanese text of "[[Swamp of the Dragon Snake]]" indicates they are a type of Monster Card like [[Toon Monster|Toon]], [[Tuner monster|Tuner]] etc. The Japanese text of "[[Viper's Grudge]]" and "[[Evil Dragon Ananta (manga)|Ananta the Snake Dragon]]" indicates that they are an [[archetype]] like "[[Archfiend]]", "[[Elemental HERO]]" etc., though no Snake Monsters actually have the specified string 「{{Ruby|蛇|じゃ}}モンスター」 or 「{{Ruby|蛇|じゃ}}」in their Japanese names and it is unclear if the two are the same or different from one another. In the International release, the term Snake Monster is removed, instead it is replaced by the term [[Reptile]]-[[Type]] monster, interestingly in the Japanese text of "Viper's Grudge" is that Reptile can be seen with Type (類族) while Snake wasn't.
