Unify templates[edit]
Should we unify these templates that create piped links with their namesake in brackets?
- Template:BAM (This one is slightly different as it also strips "#" from the link)
- Template:Anime
- Template:Manga
Always using the bracketed text as the name of the template will run into problems. e.g. if we ever wanted to make one for "card" or "OCG".
A unified template would mean not needing to make a new one for all recurring disambiguation text. Something like:
Blue-Eyes White Dragon
→Blue-Eyes White Dragon
or
Blue-Eyes White Dragon (manga)
→Blue-Eyes White Dragon
Although, there is a very similar non-template way of doing this.
Blue-Eyes White Dragon (manga)
, which becomesBlue-Eyes White Dragon
when the page is saved.
It removes the need to type the same thing twice or copy paste. But it doesn't reduce the repetition after the page is saved.
I think there's a limit to the number of templates that can be used on a page and too many templates can slow down the time it takes to load a page. Although for this template, that probably wouldn't be an issue, except on long pages, like main characters. -- Deltaneos (talk) 19:35, April 20, 2016 (UTC)
- I'm actually ahead of you there; some time ago I created link with dab which fills this role, and switched all the link templates to using it, including the ones you linked here.
Making it auto-strip # is a good idea, though, and would allow the BAM template to be simplified.(I'm also not particularly attached to the name; if you think just "link" would be better (and that we wouldn't ever want to use that name for something else), feel free to move it.) 「ディノ奴千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 21:51, April 20, 2016 (UTC) - I went ahead and moved the #-stripping to link with dab. 「ディノ奴千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 21:55, April 20, 2016 (UTC)
