As instead of simply dying like a normal human being, they instead would wither until they became dust when they were sent into the Netherworld. They were capable of using a distinctive type of monsters known as [[Dark Synchro Monster]]s which were black lined. Their [[signature card]] are the "[[Earthbound Immortal]]s", along with the use of Field Spell cards in order to maintain the effects of these powerful beasts in a Duel. There were only five Dark Signers at any given time, each one possessed by a different geoglyph. In the anime present altered time-line, a total of seven awakened, due to the fall of others. Devack was 'succeeded' by Greiger and Rex was revived after his Duel with Roman.

The [[Earthbound ImmortalsImmortal]] are s were evil entities that were sealed in the [[Nazca Lines]] by the [[Crimson Dragon]] and the [[Five Dragons]]. Each one bore a [[Mark of the Shadows|dark mark]] on to five individuals who are known as the Dark Signers. The Dark Signers possessed an inborn drive to defeat the [[Signers]], whom each had a marking of the [[Crimson Dragon]], over the course of 5,000 years. The Dark Signers served as gatekeepers to the door to the Netherworld. This door resided within the first [[Ener-D]] Reactor, located in [[Satellite]]. The Dark Signers plotted to open this gate to release the Earthbound Immortals. Knowing this, [[Rex Goodwin]] built the utopia [[New Domino City]] away from Satellite and restricted the access between the two cities so that only those left in the Satellite would be harmed when this time came. Rex's older brother, [[Roman Goodwin]], was placed in charge of the first [[Ener-D]] Reactor, developed by Doctor Fudo prior to the [[Zero Reverse]] Incident. The same incident which released the sealed Immortals from their 5,000 year imprisonment. After being spared, she was told by [[Earthbound Immortal Ccarayhua|Ccarayhua]] to kill the servant of the [[Crimson Dragon]], "[[Black Rose Dragon]]". Discovering this Greiger lost his will to continue the Crimson Dragon is Duel, but suddenly a dark and evil and encouraging voice known only as an "Envoy of the Underworld" intervened. The entity possessed him in order to force the people Duel to stand with them for continue. In the end, the possessed Greiger was defeated by Crow in the sake of SatelliteShadow Turbo Duel, during which Chacu Challhua was destroyed as well.

However, Jack dueled Kalin made peace with [[Carly Nagisa|Carly Nagisa's]] assistance, in both cases, the Signers emerged victorioushim before he withered into dust.

[[Kyosuke Kiryu|Kiryu]] targeted After the battle, Roman spoke to Yuseithrough Trudge as he challenged him. Therefore he, along with Crow, Luna, in [[Satellite]] Leo and faced him in a Trudge went to the Original [[Shadow Turbo DuelEner-D]]Reactor. He Summoned his Earthbound ImmortalAs they met with Roman inside, he detonated the Enerdy Reactor, "[[Earthbound Immortal Ccapac Apu|Ccapac Apu]]"thus releasing the negative energy inside. As it filled the room, which took the souls two of many residentsthem, who are above it, finally began their rematch. Yusei was unable to finish During the Duel due he revealed to an injury caused by him some unfortunate events which occurred between the Dark Signer and Professor Fudo. Roman also revealed his identity as the Fifth Signer. After Yusei finally managed to defeat [[Duel RunnerEarthbound Immortal Uru|Uru]] failing, and thereby Roman, Roman detonated his left arm as he disappeared, and blew up the bridge and sent Yusei falling into the depths of the Ener-D Reactor.

Carly depleted most of his Life Points, and through the nature card [[Enlightenment]], showed Jack a vision of the future where he lost the Duel and became a Dark Signers dueling powersSigner, reigning as King over a dead world. Yusei is determined Jack, who was at first caught up in the vision, dropped Carly's glasses and realized that they were still in the present. He was able to return Kiryu turn Carly back briefly into herself, before the "Envoy of the Underworld" possessed her and forced the Duel to normalcontinue. Carly summoned [[Earthbound Immortal Aslla piscu|Aslla piscu]], however Jack turned the Duel around by summoning "[[Majestic Red Dragon]]". However, questions Goodwin about returning them as he attempted to normal. Goodwin reluctantly tells end the Duel in a tie and theoretically destroy them both, Carly informed Jack that he had another destiny as King and broke the control of the Envoy of the change cannot be reverted as they are no longer Netherworld, destroyed Aslla piscu and took damage because of this worldit. She lost the Duel and vanished in Jack's arms.

Because of this Akiza who was tormented by the truth, lost the will to continue the Duel.However, Sayer appeared to save her from landing on a large shard of broken glass, but then deviously awakened her powers as the [[Akiza|Black Rose]]once again.

After a dark ritualHowever, performed by the Dark Signers while Misty in the end summoned her powerful "[[BDragon Queen of Tragic Endings]]", Akiza on the other hand not only unleashed her Black Rose Dragon, but also ultimately shattered every mirror in the vicinity and finally confronted her opponent face to face.AAkiza and Misty's Duel continued while Misty managed to gain the upper hand by summoning Ccarayhua.DWhile she does that, Yusei tricked Sayer in revealing the truth behind her brother's death.]] areaUpon hearing this she commanded her monster to devour him and avenged her brother's death. Before she could surrender, mysterious black fog covers all the Envoy of Satellite, absorbing all residents near the Underworld took control and was about to finish Akiza off with a direct attack. But Akiza pulled through by blocking the attack and summoning Black Rose Dragon again to destroy everything on the field. Misty tried to counter by inflicting damage through a card effect. But Akiza countered the damage and dealt it back to this zoneher ending the Duel with Misty feeling at peace. She vanished leaving her music box, apparently including [[Crow]]containing Toby’s and her picture on it.

After Rudger's [[Shadow Later, right after Akiza’s Duel]] against Yusei Misty concludes, before the rest of the Dark Signers show themselves were able to their rivalsseal the last Tower, the Signers as their final battle is about to begin. Currently, each Signer travels to one King of the 4 controller for Netherworld appeared from the Old Momentum where their corresponding rival is awatingOriginal Ener-D Reactor, and was moving toward New Domino City. However as Luna and Leo are taken by Trudge to controller where Demak isAt that time Rex who had acquired the powers of a Signer with Roman's arm, she instead travels back revealed to be the [[Minus World]] in order to free [[Ancient Fairy Dragon]]. Thus because last of this Leo who stumbles upon the controller with Dark Signers. As the monkey dark mark, finds Demak only to duel him in her place, trying to fulfill his promise of protecting her. After Demak summons the Condor appeared on his [[Earthbound Immortal Cusillu]]back, Luna returns from the Spirit World and takes Leo's place. Once it revealed his Dark Signer sacrifice nature and gave him supernatural powers, he declared that a [[Ancient Fairy DragonShadow Turbo Duel]], so Cusillu's effect can would be activated, Luna uses held within the Condor geoglyph as a ritual to welcome the [[Respect SynchronKing of the Netherworld]], to summon Ancient Fairy Dragon to her side of the field, thus releasing her and using both Dragons to destroy Cusillu and defeat Demak.

As Kalin then has dificulties with this Yusei tries to save him, in the end by summoning "[[Savior Star Dragonlife]]" and taking down Ccapac Apu. However as Kalin makes peace with him, still he withers into dust.

After the battle Rudger spokes to King of the Netherworld was finally destroyed by the combined power of Yusei through Trudge as he challenges him. Therefore now he along with Crow, LunaMajestic Star Dragon, Leo and Trudge go to the Old Momentum. As they meet with Rudger inside, he detonates the Momentum systemCrimson Dragon, thus releasing the negative energy inside. As it fills the room, the two all of them who are above it, finally began their rematch. During the duel he reveals to him some unfortunate event that occurred between the other Dark Signer and Professor Fudo. Also Rudger reveals his identity as the [[Fifth Signer]] who hold the Head mark. After Yusei finally manages Signers were returned to defeat Uru and therefore Rudgerlife, however before leaving only the Dark Signers Leader dissolves away he quickly detonates his left arm, blowing up the bridge and sending Yusei falling into the depths of Goodwin brothers to pass on to the Old Momentumafterlife.

Meanwhile Jack who has finally reached Order of reappearance:*[[Misty]]: It is shown that she and Akiza become close friends, and are now pen pals. She reappeared in many advertisements in Season 2, but had yet to make a physical appearance.*[[Carly]]: She appeared by throwing off her old man disguise a short while after Akiza mentions Misty. She continued to the Hummingbird towerbe friends with everyone, looks surprised as normally helping [[Jack]] out of any tight spots. It is unknown if Carly appears riding within her own Dark was still friends with [[Duel RunnerMisty]]. After that they both engage *[[Kalin]]: He went on a trip and ended up in [[Crash Town]]. His "new life" didn't seem to be as successful as the others; he wore a ragged black cape, is physically exhausted, and has lost all emotion, joining a Shadow Turbo Duellarge group of Duelists that Dueled against "[[Malcolm]]´s" group, with lifelong slavery as Carly the loser's penalty (Even then, he is able to deplenish most still admired by the kids of his life pointsthe town.). He Dueled Yusei one more time, however Jack in so that he can leave the other hand world of Dueling behind him (It is able revealed, that he kept his Dark Signer memories, and wanted to turn Carly back to her righteous selfdie for those actions). Unfortunately the "Envoy However, after a series of the Underworld" itself once againevents, upon seeing this event appears Kalin's will to posses her live changed, making sure that the town and to force the duel to go its inhabitants live peacefully from now on. As Carly summons the Nazca God*[[Greiger]]: He returned to his hometown, Jack eventually manages to turn the situation by summoning where he reunited with [[Annie (Greiger's sister)|Annie]] and [[Savior Demon DragonMax]]. HoweverSince then, as he attempts his family moved to [[Nazca Lines|Nazca]] where they build a shrine to end pacify the duel in a tie, Carly instead destroys Aslla piscu [[Earthbound Immortal]]s and taking damage because spent the rest of the series tending to it. Thus losing the duel eventually He also kept his memories as a Dark Signer, and after wanted to repent for that she vanishes while they both are huggingcrime. {{clear}}

{{In an information file that [[Z-}}one]] reads in [[Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's - Episode 149|Episode 149]], in the "original" timeline before he and [[Iliaster]] caused the [[Zero Reverse]] to split the cities, there were only five Earthbound Immortals that fought the Signers - Uru, Ccapac Apu, Cusillu, Aslla Piscu, and Ccarayhua. This would seem to suggest that Rex and Greiger did not originally become Dark Signers, and that it was Z-one's interference with the timeline that caused them to become such.
