* This is very useful when used with [[Shield and Sword]].
* In [[Frognarchs|Frog Monarchs]] variants, Normal Summon this card, tribute for its own effect, and then Special Summon a [[Swap Frog]] to dump a [[Treeborn Frog]] to the Graveyard.
* Be careful when making some plays, as this card is not a [[Frog]]. This means some cards such as [[Froggy Forcefield]] will not work with Substitoad. Also, if you have this card and another [[Dupe Frog]], there is still danger if your opponent has a [[Piercing]] effect like [[Blackwing - Bora the Spear]]. Use this card to [[Special Summon]] two [[Dupe Frog]]s ([[Tribute|tributing]] this card if necessary) for extra safety.
