Tribute is usually a way of Voluntarily discarding a card from the field, to the Graveyard, often used to unlock a card effect.
* [[Exiled Force]] can be tributed immediately, to [[destroy ]] one monster on the field.* Monsters are Tributed for a [[Tribute Summon]].* Fusion Material Monsters are Tributed [[Tribute]]d for a [[Special Summon]].
Monsters used in a [[Tribute Summon ]] are treated slightly differently, and some cards speciflcally prohibit some other cards from being used as Tribute for a [[Tribute Summon]]. [[Goat Token]]s from either [[Scapegoat]] or [[Stray Lambs]] are a notable example.
