The Crystal Beasts made their first appearance in the [[Yu-Gi-Oh! GX]] anime, used by [[Jesse Anderson]]. In the Japanese version of the anime, they are called the "''Gem Beasts''" or "''Jewel Beast''". In the English dub, each one of the Crystal Beast monsters (save for [[Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle]]) imitates the voice of a real life movie celebrity.
Later, when Jesse becomes possessed by [[Yubel]], the Crystal Beasts are transformed into '''''Advanced Crystal Beasts''''', which look like wilder, more feral armored versions of their original forms. How these cards are summoned and what effect changes they have are unknown as of yet.
