4Kids Entertainment
4Kids Entertainment is an American company responsible for the production of the English-language version of the Yu-Gi-Oh!, Yu-Gi-Oh! GX and Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's animes from 2000. They also handle English production for a number of other anime series as well as creating original series.
4Kids Entertainment introduced 4Kids TV, then called the FoxBox on September 14, 2002 after Fox Kids was dissolved following the purchase of Fox Family Worldwide by Disney. The block was re-branded 4Kids TV in January 2005. 4Kids Entertainment is wholly responsible for the content of the block and collects all advertising revenues from it - making it one of the main outlets in the United States for 4Kids licenses and properties.
Many of the licenses distributed by 4Kids Entertainment, and presented on 4Kids TV are managed by 4Kids Productions, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of 4Kids Entertainment. First launched in 1992, 4Kids Productions deals primarily with television, film, home video, and music licenses, and manages the programming for 4KidsTV.
In September 2008, 4Kids entertainment bought a block of programing on the CW, and it was entitled the CW4kids. This block was ran at the same time as its other block on 4KidsTV. Later, its block on Fox ended and now it only broadcasts on the CW. The many shows from its 4KidsTV were moved online to its website. All 5 seasons of Yu-Gi-Oh! and many Yu-Gi-Oh! GX episodes are also on their website. Currently, 4Kids Entertainment broadcasts Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's and many other shows.
In Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series, this company is made fun of frequently for its continuous censoring of menial things throughout the series.
Controversy
The company has recieved a lot of contempt from fans of series they have dubbed, due to the changes made to the series. This usually involves censoring and Americanizing content to suit an English speaking and younger demographic audience(e.g; Adding the Shadow Realm or a purple fog to the death of Carly). This is partly due to FCC regulations for American cartoons. They are also responsible for many major dub errors to the cards or to the character's roles/lines.
