- Spear Cretin can be used as a major defense. All you need is one on the field and in the graveyard and you can continuously recycle them. Just be careful of "Nobleman of Crossout" and monsters that inflict Piercing Damage. Use with "Ojama Trio" and/or "Ground Collapse" to limit the number of monsters your opponent can revive.
- This defense can be set up with a single Sangan, by using Sangan's effect to search your first Spear Cretin, and then using Spear Cretin's effect to bring back your Sangan to search for the second one the next time it's destroyed. This also leaves your Spear Cretin in the graveyard, ready to be recycled.
- Using two of these cards can provide good tribute fodder.
- Use "Foolish Burial" to send a desired monster to the Graveyard so that you can Summon it with this card's effect.
- Be wary of your opponent choosing "Man-Eater Bug" or "Old Vindictive Magician" in face-down defense, as they can just flip summon it and destroy whatever monster you revive.
- This card can work great in decks that use lots of flip-effect monsters, as you can Special Summon them face-down. Another idea is to play "Soul Reversal" to bring "Spear Cretin" to the top of your deck, providing defense for one turn, and bringing back a flip effect monster from the graveyard.
- Use with "Morphing Jar" or "Needle Worm" to chew through your opponent's deck and Hand.
- Another trick is to follow the above combo, and once your opponent's field is filled with monsters, activate "Flash of the Forbidden Spell", "Lightning Vortex", or summon "Dark Dust Spirit" to wipe them all out.
Traditional Format
- Another one is to use "Waboku" if this card was attacked (no need to use this if this card remains face-down during your next turn), when this effect resolves, you can use "Crush Card Virus", it will not just destroy all monsters on the field with 1500 ATK above it will also give you an advantage with this card's effect only.
- Use with "Cyber Jar" to clear your opponent's field.
- A nice strategy is to use "Card of Safe Return" and "Solemn Wishes" in addition to the 1st combo, to provide protection, besides of easy draw and LP recover.
