This card's effect can be activated by special summoning it face-down with the effect of Apprentice Magician, that way, if your opponent attacks it you can add a Book of Spell card to your hand and protect yourself from damage, or if they have already attacked with all their monsters, you can flip summon Magical Calligrapher Batel on your turn.
