- Like the other Frogs, this cards Japanese name is a pun. This time, however, it does not refer to a real frog, but "to swap around", or 入れ替える (Irekaeru).
- This card's English name is a portmanteau of the words "substitute" and "toad".
- This card's design is similar to "Light and Darkness Dragon" and "Change of Heart".
- This is the first Toad monster. The others are "Ronintoadin" and "Replacement Toad". Despite it's name "Toad Master" does not count as a Toad monster because of it's Japanese name, which uses the word Todo instead of Kaeru.
- This card may be some sort of a counterpart to "Treeborn Frog".
- This card has a watered-down counterpart, "Replacement Toad".
- This card is the Frog version of "Lonefire Blossom" as it can get any frog from deck and can even tribute itself.
- This is the sixth card to go directly from Unlimited to Forbidden, following "Time Seal", "Victory Dragon", "Cyber-Stein", "Chaos Sorcerer", and "Dark Strike Fighter", and being followed by "Mass Driver". Ironically, before its banning, "Substitoad" and "Mass Driver" were both part of the Frog Burn FTK.
- However, with Cannon Soldier still unlimited (due to less use as mass driver is more convenient) it is unlikely that this card will be removed from the forbidden list.
