"D/D" (DD Dīdī), known as "DD" in the English manga and pronounced "Double D" in the dubbed anime, is an archetype of primarily DARK Fiend monsters used by Declan Akaba in the Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V anime and manga. It is supported by its own sub-archetype, "D/D/D", as well as the "Dark Contract" archetype.
In the anime, and in the card game, the "D/D" playstyle is a complex, multi-faceted playstyle focused on utilizing almost all summoning methods available in the game, combining long combos of Pendulum, Fusion, Synchro, and Xyz Summoning to summon powerful boss monsters and build impressively strong boards. Secondarily, the "D/D" playstyle involves managing the mandatory self-damage effects of their "Dark Contract" Continuous Spell and Trap support cards. Within the archetype, most "D/D" monsters are main deck monsters with weaker supportive monsters with combo-enabling effects, while most "D/D/D" monsters are boss monsters with field-holding effects.
In the manga, the archetype has a vastly different playstyle. It lacks the anime version's focus on multiple Summoning methods and managing "Dark Contract" effect damage; instead, it exclusively uses Pendulum Summoning, is supported by many manga-only supportive Spell/Traps, and focuses on reducing the DEF of the opponent's monsters to 0 (reflecting Reiji's obsession with the number zero in the manga) and dealing piercing damage.
Design
Appearance
The regular "D/D" monsters seem to be based on different figures and monsters from Western mythology, while the "D/D Savant" monsters are references to great natural scientists from Western history. In contrast, the "D/D/D" sub-archetype features a distinct design style from the rest of the archetype, with many of its members modeled after famous conquerors from world history.
Taken together with its subordinate and sub-archetypes, the "D/D" archetype features a mild "business" sub-theme (probably to fit the profession of their owner in the anime), with many support cards referencing elements of modern big business. For example, the "Dark Contract" cards resemble business contracts, and the names of "Human Resources" and "Contract Laundering" reference the company practices of human resources and money laundering, respectively.
Additionally, some of the archetype's boss monsters such as "Doom King Armageddon" feature a pun in its Japanese name, such as "Great Des (Death) King" being scripted as "Shiiō", a homophone for "CEO". A similar pun can be found in the Japanese name of "Oblivion King Abyss Ragnarok" and "Wave Oblivion King Caesar Ragnarok", "Oblivion King", which is scripted as "Kaichiō", a homophone for "Chairman".
In the ARC-V manga, the "D/D" monsters appear to be demons with a mechanical, scientific theme (distinct in design to the "D/D Savant" monsters) and have equipment like scales or microscopes instead of faces.
Etymology
According to Sora Perse, "D/D" is short for "Different Dimension" (ディファレント・ディメンション Difarento Dimenshon), the same as the D.D. series.<!--Please do not add comparisons with "D.D."; You would be comparing an English name ("D.D.") with a Japanese name ("DD"). ==Playing style==
"D/D" monsters revolve around utilizing efficient The archetype's primary play-style is to use the beneficial effects of its various searchPendulum Monstering s and "swarmDark Contracting effectsContinuous Spells to  and Summon FusionTraps,  to gain card advantage while also trying to avoid the SynchroLP, damage with the effects of "XyzD/D/D Oracle King d'Arc and Pendulum Monsters", as well as manipulating "Rebel King Leonidas" Continuous Spell and /or "Trap Cards to reap their benefits and evade their drawbacks. They also include numerous effects to recover lost "Go! - D/D/DDivine Zero King Rage]]" and , or remove the "CovenantDark Contract" cards from the Graveyard, and to add them from field (after completing the card's combo) with the Deck effects of other members. Managing these cards properly is essential to the handvictory.
This deck's primary playing style is massive summons using When Normal Summoned, "Savant Kepler" can search for any "Dark Contract" card, whereas "TemujinSavant Copernicus" and "sends a "Dark Contract" or "D/D" card from the Deck to the GY. "AlexanderSwirl Slime" also has a useful effect, from the hand, for loading the GY with revival targets for later, and highcan banish itself from the GY on the same turn to Special Summon any "D/D" monster from the hand. Its GY-level Synchro monsters with counterpart, "Night HowlingNecro Slime", is able to Fusion Summonby banishing itself and another "D/D" (It should be noted that monster from the GY, making the duo incredibly useful. Combined with other monsters such as "D/DLamia" monsters should preferably be Special Summoned , they can allow for attacking with instant usage of Synchro Monsters too. This leads into using some of the archetype's most powerful combo-pieces like "AlexanderFlame King Genghis" or and "Temujin,Gust King Alexander" not with "Night Howling," as that reduces well as their High King forms (the Summoned monster to 0 latter of which also provides a threatening 6000 ATK beatstick). One Alternatively, this can easily get 7000 ATK damage on the board. Since Pendulum Monsters counteract putting them into the Graveyard from the field, it is best also grant access to use monsters such as "Covenant with the ValkyrieCrystal Wing Synchro Dragon," and "Covenant PSY-Framelord Omega". However, with the Swamp Kingadditions of "Berfomet," and "Gryphon", not only is Synchro Summoning easier, but so is Xyz Summoning, thus granting access to not only "Hand DestructionD/D/D Wave King Caesar" - who provides great recovery at the end of the Battle Phase - but also its High King version and"D Marksman King Tell", who provide Summon negation (with an ATK boost) and ATK/Needlebug NestDEFreduction (which turns the downsides of any "Dark Contract" to put them in the Graveyard from player's favor) with the Deck and handability to dump any "D/D" or "Dark Contract" card, respectively.
In order to accomplish a large swarm a somewhat strict but manageable setup is required. First one should Fusion Summon "Temujin" (without Normal Summoning) through Along with "Swamp Zero KingRage" which can also banish materials from , one of the Graveyard (a Level 4 monster should always be best Pendulum Monsters to place in the Graveyard.) Next Normal Summon Pendulum Scales is "Oblivion King Abyss Ragnarok"Night Howling, who can easily revive any " and use its effect to Special Summon 1 D/D from Graveyard" monster when another member of the archetype is Special Summoned, preferably a at the cost of 1000 damage and the halving of battle damage that turn. Other amazing choices for the Pendulum Scale includes "Lilith/D Chaos King Apocalypse" in the Graveyard as "Night Howling" can revive her and make the most of her recycling effect, immediately after Synchro Summon "Alexander". Once this happens Temujin can use its effect to Special Summon 1 "King Requiem" monster from Graveyard, extending the user's plays and then Alexander can use its combos while also helping to avoid potential defeats due to the player's own effect to revive a Level 4 or lower "Dark Contract" cards. "D/DDog" (one can also help immensely by negating the effects of which should be a Level 4 monster)various monsters Summoned from the Extra Deck. Finally if Another potent choice is "CerberusSavant Thomas" is on , a Pendulum Scale, it can turn any nonone-level 4 monster into a level 4 which can be used to card Rank 8 Xyz Summon - that being "Caesar Duo-Dawn King Kali Yuga", who outright shuts down every other card on the Wave Overlord|Caesarfield when Summoned and can also either destroy every Spell/Trap on the field or Set a "Dark Contract" from your GY. This combo has many variations howeverHowever, "Kali Yuga" is not alone, as "TemujinDeviser King Deus Machinex" is another terrific Xyz Monster to utilize that can outright absorb other monsters before it by attaching them as Xyz Materials, not unlike "AlexanderCyber Dragon Infinity" . It is also incredibly easy to Summon as it can Special Summon ANY use any "D/D/D" monster, regardless of level, including a copy of himself which can open Rank 6 plays, which can expand the horizons of the Deck and create several combinations. By employing cards such as "Call of the Hauntedmaterial", one which can reinforce include the opponent's monsters with the swarm much more without needing to use "Night Howling" effect, thus enabling its user, several more options. Although most of this swarming can only be done if one can access Fusion Summon through "Swamp King" and acquire the assets needed through "Covenant with the HellgateD/D/D Headhunt", which can often require a turn or two, leaving the combo vulnerable to Spell/Trap removal at some point, thus one must also be patient and know when to explode.
The Deck also has considerable draw power, putting good use to cards such as One of the best "Hand Destruction,D/D/D" monsters to Summon from the Extra Deck is "Magic PlanterD/D/D Abyss King Gilgamesh",since it requires only 2 " D/D"Lease Launderingmonsters," and "Allure of Darkness." Although "Magic Planter" works solely in return immediately sets up the player's Pendulum Scale with Trapsmonsters straight from the Deck, if granting them all the player incorporates other helpful Continuous Traps such as benefits of "Zero King Rage"Fiendish Chainand " or Abyss Ragnarok"straight away. Upon being Call of the Haunteddestroy" (ed by the latter which is most useful due to swarming) it can help in reaping several benefitsopponent, "Gilgamesh" will also replace himself with a fellow "Emergency ProvisionsD/D/D" can also be used to regain lost Life Points and stay in monster from the leadExtra Deck or GY, of which there are plenty of good choices.
Another strategy involves "===Weaknesses===Because this Deck focuses on Dark Snake Syndromeswarm": because of ing to push the presence of game, cards that can disable or counter swarming or searching, like "Rebellious Overlord LeonidasFossil Dyna Pachycephalo" or "Thunder King Rai-Oh" and , can greatly hinder this Deck. Additionally, the archetype's synergy with the "Lease LaunderingDark Contract" archetype provides a weakness to reduce Spell/Trap removal, as well as a dependence on cards that mitigate the negative effect of damage from the "CovenantsDark Contract"cards. The archetype is also lacking in dealing with monsters outside of battle, you will be able to prevent the negative backfire with their only forms of effect removal being "SyndromeDark Contract with the Witch" and inflict tons or the monster effect of effect damage to your opponent. If "Oracle Overlord D'ArcDeviser King Deus Machinex". Cards that also negatively affect certain Attributes, such as "Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror" is included, you can gain LP while reducing your opponent'sare also potentially deadly.
Because most of the Deck's bosses are Level 7 monster such as "Alexander", "Leonidas", "Kaiser", and "D'Arc", the Deck can also incorporate Rank 7 monsters into their assets, It should be noted however that if the effect of "Night Howling" is used, this cannot be done in the same turn as there are currently no Rank 7 Fiend-Type monsters. Since the Deck features many high level Main Deck monsters, it is capable of huge raw power, although it can often be detrimental if one cannot summon those monsters as currently, the only ways to Summon them quick through Pendulum Summon involve "Magical Astronomer Kepler" and "Proud Ogre" that have high scales, although the former is not very stable as a Pendulum Card due to its reducing scale, while the latter cannot summon "Hell Armageddon" or "Abyss Ragnarok". Because of this a recommended but not obligatory approach is to employ as fewer high levels as possible, leaving "Proud Ogre", "Leonidas" and "Galilei" the most useful for the Deck, largely since "Proud Ogre" can Pendulum Summon "Leonidas" and lower level monsters and provide an attack boost, "Leonidas" is mandatory due to its effect that circumvents the "Convenants'" LP fee as well as having large stats and "Magical Astronomer Galilei" which can be used to protect cards by returning them to the hand, serving as Fusion fuel as well. While "Abyss Ragnarok" and "Hell Armageddon" can be helpful, it is unwise to run them in high numbers as they are difficult to summon, and are best used on the "Pendulum Zones", the former can help in swarming while the latter can provide the large boost of 800 ATK which can help many monsters in defeating difficult threats. "D/D/D Conquest Overlord Kaiser" is the least helpful since it is not a Pendulum Monster and his effects are derived from Pendulum Summon. Although it has huge offensive abilities it can often be left unused, also destroying your own "Convenant" cards for his effect can be a several drawback if the OTK is unsuccessful. ==Weaknesses=="D/D" decks have a few major weaknesses. First, this deck focuses entirely on swarming to push the game, so decks that disable or counter swarming (like "Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo", "Black Horn of Heaven", etc...) can greatly hinder this deck. It also has a built-in weakness through the "Covenant" Recommended cards themselves. Each new covenant card provides a great boon, at the cost of an additional 1000 damage each turn, which can build up damage fast if not controlled. However, these costs can be mitigated with "Lease Laundering", "Oracle Overlord D'Arc", and "Rebellious Overlord Leonidas". Finally, the "Fire Hand"/"Ice Hand" combo poses a great threat to this deck, able to completely break a "D/D" player's field presence in one fell swoop. ==Recommended cards==
