Téa does not usually play games with Yugi and his friends, but in the beginning of the anime, she could beat [[Joey Wheeler]] in ''[[Duel Monsters]]'', and was later shown to be more than competent against others. Téa is also very good at dancing and wants to be a professional dancer when she grows up.

At the beginning of the manga, Anzu has a spunky, tomboyish personality and was able to scare away Joey (Jonouchi) and Tristan (Honda) after they bully Yugi. She's very kind -hearted, strong -willed and supportive.

In the second series anime, she is usually shown to be cheering her friends and standing up for what she believes in and ; it is also shown that she will do anything to help her friends. She plays the role of the strong, down-to-earth, caring, compassionate voice of reason of the group.  She is also shown to have more affection towards Yugi than the Pharaoh in this series (hinted at during the final Duel , and during the Waking the Dragons arc). She is also shown to get easily jealous, such as when Mai (initially), Rebecca, and Vivian flirt with Yugi, — sometimes to the point where she has an explosive outburst.  Despite her strong bond of friendship, she Téa is not above keeping the others, mainly Joey and Tristan, in line when they get out of control or act foolishly. She often says "I need more female friends", yet she loves them deeply.

Her English dub name "Téa" is a shortened form of "Dorothea" or "Theodora" means "gift of the god" while her surname "Gardner" could be a corruption of the word "guard" or "the one who guard", reflecting her role as Yugi's "guardian" to some degree. It's also possible that her name is a joke on Tea and Gardening.

Since Yugi won he moves onto the finals to Duel Yami Marik but first Joey challenges Kaiba to a Duel to see who gets third place. Before the Duel starts Marik takes over Téa 's body so he can go talk to Ishizu. He then tells Ishizu that he needs to confront Yami Marik and runs off to the Duel Tower to do so. Yami Marik is already up there trying to figure out what happened during Yugi and Kaiba's Duel then he gets annoyed and throws the rod, which lands near Téa. She picks it up and is holding it up at Yami Marik while Marik is talking to him. Yami Marik ends up getting the rod back, and he tries to get rid of Marik with the rod. Then Ishizu comes up just in time to stop him. Marik then tells Ishizu to forget about him and stops taking control of Téa. She is knocked out for a while, and Yami comes up to find out what happened to Téa and starts talking to Yami Marik, and he eventually leaves. Yami then talks to Ishizu about what was going on, and Téa wakes up, not knowing what happened. Yugi decides not to tell her about how Marik was taking control of her. They go back down to see how Joey's Duel was going, and they tell her that he lost, so they get ready for Yugi's Duel with Marik.

Téa does not have a prominent role in the [[Grand Championship]] arc, but as always , she is Yugi and Joey's cheerleader throughout their Duels.  Téa also meets and despises [[Vivian Wong|Vivian]], because of her feelings for Yugi. She also develops a habit of saying the line "I need some female friends!" whenever the others start getting on her nerves.

In the beginning of [[File:Téa and Yugi playing Capsule Monsters, .png|thumb|right|300px|Téa is seen with and Yugi playing the ''[[Capsule Monsters]]'']]Téa played ''[[Capsule Monsters board game]]'' at school with [[Yugi Muto|Yugi]] and adored the cuteness of her "[[Happy Lover (anime)|Happy Lover]]" piece, but Yugi insisted that she would need to use her best pieces rather than her cutest to win. When [[Tristan Taylor|Tristan]] arrived, she offered to let him take her place before she got her "butt kicked", but they were soon interrupted by [[Joey Wheeler|Joey]] wins , who struggled to contain his excitement over winning four tickets for a six-day holiday to India.<ref name="cm 1">{{episode|Yu-Gi-Oh! Capsule Monsters|1|ref}}</ref> Téa agreed to go on the trip, Téa has but had a bad strange feeling about they could end up in some sort of trouble, given their group's history and hoped for once they could have a normal trip. At the airport she teased Joey over the tripamount of baggage he had brought. LaterWhen they learned that they would be flying on their own personal plane, Téa noted that she had been hoping for something bigger. Téa soon forgot her previous reservations as she looked at the landscape from the plane.<ref name="cm 1" /> The plane suffered engine difficulties while flying over a forest and crash landed on the edge of a river. Everyone on board survived and the pilot sent a distress signal. Joey was not keen on spending his free trip waiting for the planerescue team, so he began to explore the area was joined by Yugi, Téa is seen looking out and Tristan. Téa expressed concern in wandering around a forest with potentially dangerous animals, but Joey said that the window saying animals would be more afraid of them.<ref name="cm 1" /> Téa and hre friends happened upon [[Alex Brisbane]] lying unconscious. They learned that ''Therehe was a colleague of Yugi's nothing but nature for miles!''grandfather, [[Solomon Muto|Solomon]], and that Solomon had disappeared during their latest exhibition. Alex then led the group to where he last saw him,<ref name="cm 1" /> Alex led Téa and her friends to the [[Pyramid of Alexander]], unorthodoxly located outside of Egypt. As Alex navigated them past the pyramids traps, Téa became suspicious of how knowledgeable Alex was of the internal workings of the pyramid, despite him claiming to have only been inside once before. The group were brought to a room with a giant map, near where Alex had been separated from Solomon. Joey disappeared after stepping on the map. Téa, Yugi says and Tristan all decided to himself follow to save Joey and Solomon, despite Yugi insisting that he should go alone.<ref name="cm 1" /> Stepping on the map brought Téa is more excited about this trip then anyone else, Yugi and Tristan to the [[World of Capsule Monsters]]. Soon after they were chased by a group of [[Gokibore (characters)|Gokibore]] and became separated from Yugi after running into [[Kamakiriman (character)|Kamakiriman]]. Later in Téa and Tristan escaped from the seriesGokibore by sliding through a tunnel.<ref name="cm 1" /> The tunnel took Téa and Tristan to a beach, where they were joined by [[Thunder Kid (character)|Thunder Kid]] and [[Happy Lover (character)|Happy Lover]]. Téa initially got a shock when she spotted them, after but thought they enter seemed harmless on observation. She recognized Happy Lover as a piece from the Capsule Monsters world, all Téa wants is to go homegame. She asked if Tristan agreed that he was cute and scolded Tristan for joking about Thunder Kid's looks.<ref name="cm 1" />

Téa, Tristan and Joey accompanied Yugi to Egypt so they could help the Pharaoh figured out his memories. She also had noticeably had a change in clothing, and was now wearing white heels, a red skirt and a black sleeveless top. The Pharaoh presented the Egyptian God cards to the Tablet of Lost Memories, and was pulled into the Shadow RPG, where he would find out his memories. However, after discovering that Yami Bakura followed him, the gang went after Yami.  Later, Tea Téa figured out that the key to stopping Bakura was to tell the Pharaoh his real name, as it was also the key to unlocking his memory. The gang was betrayed by Tristan, who was possessed by Bakura and almost killed, but jumped to a cliff and saved themselves. Tea Téa pulled Yugi up, who was hanging onto Joey and then both her and Yugi saved Joey. When they found Tristan, he revealed that he had been possessed by Bakura and Dueled Yugi. Tea  Téa noted that Yugi had to Duel without Yami. Yugi still won, though. When they found Yami, they gave him his name by thinking of the symbols and putting them on a necklace-like item. Yami then remembered who he was a and revealed that his true name was Atem. Atem was then able to Summon [[The Creator of Light]] to destroy [[Zorc Necrophades]]. The gang then returned to the real world.

Tea Téa is mostly seen torn with the idea of Atem passing on the spirit world. As she believes that , though he deserves to reunite with those in his past and finally achieve peace, she also doesn't want him to leave, due to because of the feelings she has for him. Thus , she usually appears having this mental debate within herself, with the outcome ending in her crying. However , whilst dealing with this emotional turmoil, she displays a happy facade to the rest of the group, especially around Yugi and Atem.  During the beginning of the Duel, she outwardly supports Yugi to win, but inwardly wishes Atem to be victorious so that he can't can’t leave. However as the Duel progresses she increasingly cheers on Yugi to the point where she shocks herself on how she changed sides of who she wanted to win.  However, even though Yugi won the Duel in the end, her feelings for Atem had not weakened and she is saddened to such an extent of the possibility of him leaving, that just as the spirit of the Pharaoh is about to pass through the gates of the afterlife, she tries to run after him; however, however her attempt is stopped by Joey.

* Although Téa's Dueling skills are lackluster compared to others, she is the only character in the ''[[Yu-Gi-Oh! (second series anime)|Yu-Gi-Oh!]]'' second series anime who never lost a Duel she participated in, beating Mai Valentine alone and even besting Crump of The Big Five(though she had help from Dark Magician Girl when facing Crump).
