Torrey, an Obelisk Blue student, first appeared during the 1st Season in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX - Episode 014 - A Spirit Summoned. He was a student in Banner's Para-Dueling class, and after being told that duel spirits may 'come to life' under certain conditions, he and some friends tried to create those conditions and eventually successfully summoned the duel spirit Jinzo. Jinzo, however, eventually went after Torrey and his friends in order to be free, but eventually lost a duel against Jaden and dissapeared.
