(Cleanup. Despite the series' focus on Fusions, it was made to work specifically with the Fusion Summoning methods it was given, making some cards (like King of the Swamp) not that useful.)

Flame Swordsman (炎の剣士 Honō no Kenshi or 炎の剣士 En no Kenshi) is a series of FIRE Warrior monsters used by Joey Wheeler in the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime. The series consists of the original "Flame Swordsman" and cards that mention it.

While "Dark Flare Knight", the first card to ever mention "Flame Swordsman", was released all the way back in Power of the Guardian/Dark Revelation Volume 1, the first cards with effects that rely on cards that mention "Flame Swordsman" were not released until more than 20 years later in Maze of Millennia.

Design
The various variants of "Flame Swordsman" generally depict the eponymous blade-wielder and his burning blade, wearing his iconic blue-and-crimson fantasy-themed garb. The different Monster Cards nonetheless depict the swordsman with different physical frames, styles of ornamentation on his clothes, and wielding his weapon in different ways. A common trait amongst most of the members is that their head gear covers their eyes, based on the anime depiction of the original "Flame Swordsman". Beyond the original "Flame Swordsman", the only ones lacking this trait are "Ferocious Flame Swordsman" and "Fighting Flame Swordsman". "Ferocious Flame Swordsman" and "Ultimate Flame Swordsman" also showcase this monster with blonde hair, inspired by Joey Wheeler, who used this card in the anime.

Playing style
"Flame Swordsman" as a theme heavily focuses on Equip Cards as well as easily Special Summoning its Fusion Monsters. Through the effect of "Flame Swordsrealm", one may send a monster from the hand or field to the GY to Special Summon the titular Fusion Monster to the field. From there, the deck utilizes Equip Cards that reference the iconic Equip Spell Card "Salamandra" with a shared effect of gaining 700 ATK with a handful of cards allowing for the immediate Special Summon of the new boss monster of the theme, "Ultimate Flame Swordsman", with its effect to disrupt the opponent and double its ATK for the turn at the cost of destroying itself at the end of the turn. With this, the theme's playing style heavily supports summoning "Ultimate Flame Swordsman" and loading it with Equip Cards to immediately OTK the opponent

With the support revolving around FIRE Warrior monsters, the deck is able to benefit from the inclusion of several different tech cards as well as themes to include; such as the "Infernoble Knight" archetype to list an example.

Trivia
* Many aspects of the support from Maze of Millennia reference elements of "Flame Swordsman" and its use throughout the original Yu-Gi-Oh! (anime)

** The main effect of "Flame Swordsrealm" to summon "Flame Swordsman" is in reference to its status in the anime as a Level 5 Normal Monster, thus allowing it to be summoned without needing a Fusion Summon while the ATK gain effect is in reference to the Deck Master ability of "Flame Swordsman" to sacrifice its own ATK to give to another Warrior Monster.
