The ability to rename filepages was originally an additional feature given to users with this right. Following the upgrade to [[mw:MediaWiki 1.19|MediaWiki 1.19]], all registered users gained this ability.

Mover is a user right that allows users experienced in page moves to access some restricted features, which helps them speed up the process of moving pages.

Administrators and bureaucrats are able to grant users this access and users may request it at Project:Requests for mover; administrators already have the associated rights and should not request or add this group for themselves. To view a list of the current movers, see Special:ListUsers/mover.

Access

Movers have the following extra access.

Name Function Main uses
movefile Allows the user to rename pages in the file namespace.
  • Renaming files with misleading, meaningless, erroneous or pejorative names.
  • Renaming images with non-image policy compliant names.
  • Renaming card images after a card is renamed.
noratelimit Not be affected by action throttles, including one which prevents users performing more than two page moves in a short space of time.
  • Moving "other card information" and other related pages after a card article has been renamed.
suppressredirect Allows the user to rename a page without leaving a redirect behind. It's important to ensure that relevant links to the old title are cleaned-up when using this.
  • Moving files and "other card information" pages.
  • Undoing vandalism page moves.
