Machine monsters are powerful, and in some cases, fearsome to face in battle. They rely on high ATK as well as a variety of powerful effects, and they have some of the strongest Fusion Monsters in the OCG/TCG, that can be made even more powerful with the ATK-doubling ability of "Power Bond", "Cybernetic Zone", or "Limiter Removal". Most Machine monsters have DARK, EARTH, or LIGHT Attributes. In the Yu-Gi-Oh! (second series anime) first season, they have the special ability of immunity against all type of magic and Spellcaster attacks. Their general strategy varies, but they often have the ability to negate the effects of specific opposing cards and/or destroy them. Machine monsters also have two of their own Structure Decks, i.e. Machine Re-Volt and Machina Mayhem.
Some of the numerous Machine archetypes include: "Ancient Gear", "Gadget", "Geargia", "Morphtronic", "B.E.S.", "Vehicroid", "Roid", "Ally of Justice", "Machina", "Reactor", "Heavy Industry", "Karakuri", "Genex", and "Meklord" (which has the "Meklord Emperor" and "Meklord Army" sub-archetypes).
Notable Machine series' include:"Cyber Dragon", "Cyberdark", "Cycler", "Gradius", "Machine King", "Robotic Knight, "Gun Dragon", "Jinzo", and "VWXYZ".

Trivia
- Starting from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's many monsters that resemble Machine-Type monsters but are in fact of different types started appearing, such as Yusei's Warrior Synchro monsters, the "Scrap", "Wind-Up", and "T.G.",
- Machines are one of the only Monster types that has been used by a semi-major character in all the Yu-Gi-Oh! animes. They were used by Bandit Keith in the Yu-Gi-Oh! second series anime, Syrus Truesdale in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, Leo in Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's and Bronk Stone in Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL.
