"So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will fight without danger in battles.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

Deck Building Tips[edit]

This section will be an area where I will express the ways I think of how to make a good or better deck.

  • 1. Pick a Card, Type, Archetype, or Strategy
  • 2. Build a deck around it. Use its Attribute, Type, effect, ATK and DEF, sometimes Level, and maybe Fusions to your advantage.
  • 3. Use “Nerfed Cards” instead of Forbidden cards for tournament play.
  • 4. Basing a deck on one thing is foolish. Use other cards to help strengthen your decks.
  • 5. Keep your deck at balance. The 2:1:1 theory (2 Monsters per 1 Spell per 1 Trap) and trios and singles are theorird that work well. Balance is good when making decks surrounding cards like the Sacred Beasts. Gear Kaiser, EHeroFlareNeos, and I use this theory.
  • 6. Try to eliminate any Weaknesses. A strong deck can be easily defeated if a major loop-hole is found. Cards like Magic Jammer (and other counterparts), Seven Tools of the Bandit, Royal Decree and many others are great for defending you.
  • 7. Use a variety of different types of cards. For Example use Ritual Monsters, Fusion Monsters, Effect Monsters, Normal Monsters, ATK, and DEF monsters. Some ATK monsters below 1500 are good against Crush Card Virus and other cards.
  • 8. Depending on Deck size, monsters Level 7 or higher should only represent 25% of your monsters or less (Ex. 40 cards - 5 Level 7 or higher monsters). Some decks that revolve around certain strategies are exceptions.
  • 9. See Here
Sample Deck : Magicians of Flaming Chaos

If you tried the links on this deck you have probably noticed this deck has many different characteristics. 1. It's based on Dark Magician(Archetype), Spellcaster(Type), and Burning(Strategy). 2. It uses the cards Attribute for the Chaos cards and Fusion to give it an advantage. 3. Though not fully up to date it does use "Fillers". 4. Instead of only one characteristic this deck has many, such as Burn, Spellcaster, some beatdown, power over other types, etc. 5. It is very balanced depending on what format is used. 6. It also does have cards to protect it from Spells and Traps.

Other Thoughts[edit]

This section will be an area where I will express the ways Others think of how to make a good or better deck. Some may be added in the above section. Please if you have and idea post it in the Discussion on this page.

  • Here is my help:
  • Never be guided by your opponent's words, not because they call you crying baby you have to risk a card in a duel, so just say no. This is mainly for kids I've seen losing worthy cards against mean guys.
  • Don't ignore a card because it is banned, there is always a Traditional Format.
  • If you are one of those mean guys above mentioned, beware, I'll hunt you... hahahahaha!!!!!!
  • If you want really powerful cards, then forget the Advanced Format.
  • Searchers are always useful; they can save you from complicated situations.
  • Rituals may look hard to summon and a waste of time, but there are some that are really useful, always give a card a chance.
  • Same thing with fusions.
  • Attack strength is not everything; that mighty Five-Headed Dragon will not be able to defend from that Man-Eater Bug.
  • Heavy Storm/Giant Trunade are always good options before summoning a mighty monster.
  • Will try to think in others. --Dragon Slayer (Contribs Count) 01:36, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Pick a card you like any card regardless of Card Type, Attribute, Level, ATK, DEF, and Effect. Pick it by its name and/or picture "I picked Dark Red Enchanter I didn't know anything about it but I wanted in my deck" build a deck that will complement well and you might just find it works for you. • Choose cards that you like very much. Instead of the two decks I have in my user page, I have created some decks that I don't want to reveal their contents. One powerful of my decks is my Machine deck called Ancient Times in which the most cards I use are Ancient Gears. So, the best way to create a deck is to choose a theme. Would you like to summon Exodia or make your opponent unable to draw cards or even destroy their cards by using combined cards and attacking them directly. There are so many you can do, but I won't reveal you my secret strategy. Not be angry after all.--Dimitri-King of the Copycats 13:19, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
  • You will recieve much more enjoyment if you duel for fun rather than strictly for winning (in my opinion). Good dueling buddies (friends you duel with) should be able to respect how you duel. If they are constantly saying how your strategy and/or deck sucks, badger you about how stupid you are to keep your favorite card, and get furious when losing, stop dueling with them. If talking with them didn't work, continually dueling them will only make you more frustrated. Trust me. (?_?) Voodude the Wiseman 18:38, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
  • Search for your spirit card. It's not always your first card or a card someone special gave to you (but it's VERY likely it is). When you get your spirit card, you'll know. When that happens, find cards that support it and make a deck. That's what my brother did with Raiza (his spirit card) Gemini69 07:17, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
  • The most important skill of a good duelist is knowing when to play offensively and when to play defensively. The Horror Speak if you dare 16:06, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
  • Be weird! Be unpredictable! People know that Gladiator Beasts need to keep their monsters from being destroyed by battle and tag out, Dark Armed Dragon needs to control its graveyard count, and Lightsworns need to mill their deck - and plan accordingly. But if you can confuse your opponent into thinking you're doing something that you're not (or vice-versa), then they should have no idea how to counter it. If knowing your enemy allows you to defeat them, then not even having a clue what they're really doing may just have the opposite effect. Runer5h 22:02, 10 May 2009 (UTC)Runer5h
  • Say you have no cards on your field, your opponent has managed to summon out Dark Armed Dragon and will totally destroy you next turn. Both players are barely holding on: You with 200 LP, you opponent with 700 LP. You only have one card left in your deck, and a Megamorph in your hand with no monster to equip it to. You draw, and your heart skips a beat. Your mouth twitches, and breaks out into a smile. You summon out the card you drew: Jinzo#5. You equip it with Megamorph, attack directly, and win.

As Captain James T. Kirk once said, "I don't beleive in no-win situations." You shouldn't either. Terrywiz 03:53, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Heart of the Cards[edit]

"There's no such thing as a worthless card." -Yusei Fudo

Remember, the most important part of dueling, it is to respect and trust your deck... Before you tell me Hey, calm down Mr. Heart of the cards it is true. If you say: I'm gonna lose, I'm gonna lose, trust me, you'll. Also, don't hear those who say: Hey, your deck is weak, you should use... (Insert overused card here). Those broken/annoying cards are used by all and hey, you don't have to be like everyone. And why is it? Because being like everyone is stupid, always search to be better than they. It is the only way to win in life Dueling. --Dragon Slayer (Contribs Count) 19:42, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Nerfed Cards[edit]

These Cards are cards that are similar or almost as powerful as some Forbidden cards. These cards are also Staples, Splashable, and Broken cards. For more information look here
