A [[Millennium Ring merchant|merchant]], said to be from the [[Shadow Realm]], came to possess the Millennium Ring. At a bazaar in Egypt, he sold the Millennium Ring and the start ''[[Duel Monsters]]'' card, "[[Seven-Armed Fiend]]", to Bakura's father. (In the English dub, the merchant said the card was connected to ''Duel Monsters''.) Bakura's father passed the Ring on to his son, [[Bakura Ryou]]. (In the English dub, he said that he felt his son was destined to have it.)<ref name="ep 13">{{episode|Yu-Gi-Oh!|13|ref}}</ref> Holding the Millennium Ring caused Bakura to house the soul of [[Yami Bakura]], who was able to take full control of Bakura's body.<ref name="ep 13" /> Bakura brought the anime Millennium Ring with him to [[Duelist Kingdom]]. During the first night of the tournament, Yami Bakura Ryoutook control of his body and used the Millennium Ring to turn a game of ''Duel Monsters'' Bakura was about to play with his friends into a [[Shadow Game]]. Using the Ring, he trapped the souls of [[Yugi Muto]], [[Joey Wheeler]], [[Téa Gardner]], and [[Tristan Taylor]] in cards that they like, while he Dueled against [[Yami Yugi]] had . However Bakura Ryou's soul was also trapped in a card and Yami Yugi was able to swap the positions of the two Bakuras souls. After the Shadow Game, Bakura told Yugi how he got the Millennium Ring.<ref name="ep 13" />
