The Japanese version of the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game is called Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters Original Card Game. It was the first Yu-Gi-Oh! card game to be released, not counting the Yu-Gi-Oh! Bandai OCG. Many cards released for this version of the game are not released outside of Japan, or are edited for various reasons.

Generally, the legal status of a card is the same in the Japanese version of the game as it is in the Advanced Format, since Advanced Format is designed for international tournaments. However, there will occasionally be a card Forbidden in the Japanese cardlist, and be outright Illegal in the TCG.
