==Types of monster effect==
There are several distinct types of monster effect. All monster effects that start a Chain except Quick Effects are [[Spell Speed 1]].*[[Flip Ignition Effect]]: Activates when the monster is [[flipOptional]]ped [[face-upSpell Speed 1]] (even in the [[Damage Step]]). Can be either [[optional]] or [[compulsory]].*[[Ignition Effect]]: Optional effect that can be activated in any open [[game state]] during the [[Main Phase]] (some cards have Ignition Effects that can be activated during other [[Phase]]s).*[[Trigger Effect]]: Have [[Spell Speed 1]] effect that has a specific activation timing that must be met before they can be activated. Can be either [[optional ]] or non[[mandatory effect|mandatory]].**[[Flip effect]]: Kind of Trigger Effect that activates when the monster is [[flip]]ped [[face-up]] (even in the [[Damage Step]]). Can be either optionalor mandatory. It was previously an independent effect type.*[[Quick Effect]]: [[Spell Speed 2]]. May or may not have a specific timing. Can be either optional or non-optionaleffect.*[[Continuous Effect]]: Does Effect that does not start a [[Chain]], and remains in effect as long as applies while the monster with this effect is [[face-up ]] on the [[field]] (and under no other circumstances).*[[Unclassified Effect]]: Other types of monster effects Effect that do does not start a [[Chain]], and is not a Continuous Effect.
