There has been argument over whether Mystical Space Typhoon negates the effects of spell/trap cards, however, in a real life duel, because normal spell cards have a lower spell speed than Mystical Space Typhoon, there are no technicalities that Mystical Space Typhoon wouldn't be able to negate the effect of a normal spell card, Despite this, in game, normal spell cards are not negated.
