Illusion (幻想魔 Gensōma, lit. "Illusion Magic") is a Type of Monster Card. It was the first Type from the manga version of Duel Monsters (first appearing in December 1997) to be added to the OCG after its launch, debutting there with April 2023's Duelist Nexus.
Overview
In the manga, the Illusion Type was used by Maximillion J. Pegasus. Monsters Members included "Illusionist Faceless Mage", "Dark-Eyes Illusionist", "Relinquished", "Thousand-Eyes Restrict", and an unnamed monster. They were supported by "Black Illusion Ritual". The Type is strong against the Black Magic Type and weak against the Fiend Type. In the Japanese manga, it is usually referred to as "Illusion Type" (幻想魔族)with the same name ultimately used in the OCG, but also referred to as was called "Illusionist" (幻想師Gensōshi) at in one pointoccasion. In the English manga, it is referred to as "Illusionists" at one point and "Illusion" at another.
In the 1998 Bandai Carddassgame, the Type was assigned to "Dragon Capture Jar" and "Dragon Piper", both of which were also cards used by Pegasus.
Most Illusion Effect Monsters released in the OCGTCG/TCGOCG share the effect that no monster can be destroyed by battles involving them (including themselves), incorporate the Eye of Wdjat in their artworks, and/or feature a nearly monochromatic abstract background.
