Present-day At Domino Pier, Kemo addresses the duelists chosen to participate in the tournament, who have been chosen through careful observation of their past Duels. Duelists attempting to board the boat must present their Star Chips to be granted entry; as a result, when Joey tells Yugi he's the best friend attempts to board without Star Chips, he ever had is grabbed by two goons and escorted out. Yugi wishes stops them and gives Joey could come with one of his Star Chips, thus granting him entry into both the boat and the tournament. (In the dub, Joey was instead trying to Duelist Kingdomsneak on board through the lower hatches. Joey repeats his promise that somehow they'll do it together) Meanwhile, Tristan and Téa are able to sneak on board undetected by hiding behind some crates.
At Domino PierOn board the boat, the duelists have gathered to board Mai Valentine notices Yugi and Joey standing by the ship for Duelist Kingdom's rail. Joey is attracted to her, but Mai ignores him and instead addresses Yugi, saying how it is impressive that a little boy defeated Kaiba . She tells Yugi that no matter who her opponent is, she never shows any mercy. (Saruwatari), welcomes themIn the dub, and she instead tells them their Star Chips will grant them entry Yugi to the tournament. They're all elite duelistscut Joey loose, who've been invited because due to his lack of their performance in past Duel Monsters contestsboth fashion sense and dueling skill. They all have a fair ) Téa comments on how they came because they were worried about Yugi and equal chance Joey, not to winwatch them flirt. So they board (In the ship and proceed to Duelist Kingdom!dub, she instead comments on Mai's arrogance.)
The Later, Joey is upset at his sleeping accommodations, saying that a luxury ship should have nicer rooms. Weevil Underwood and Rex Raptor come in and explain that only duelists are told to present their Star Chips as they board who placed high in the vessellast tournament get private rooms. But there's a commotion—Joey's been caught trying to sneak aboard. Yugi runs Weevil says that winning the last tournament did not feel like much of an accomplishment to ask him what he's doing, and Joey says there's no way that he cannot call himself a champion until he'd let defeats Yugi do this on his own. Meanwhile, Tristan and Téa are waiting for a chance to sneak past the cargo handlersKaiba. Weevil tells Yugi tells a secret: there will be new special rules for the men holding Joey tournament that Joey's with him, but they say only people with a Star Chip are allowed on boardwill require even more strategy than before. Yugi Rex says Joey has a Star Chipthat he is not worried, and gives him one of hisas dueling is either "crush or be crushed". One Weevil comments on the public room allowing for trading of the men warns Yugi that hecards and for duelists to figure out others'll be at a disadvantage if he gives up one of his Star Chipsstrategies. Joey starts trying to trade, but Yugi to which Weevil says he'd rather take that risk than be without his friend. The man calls Pegasus anyone still trading cards on his cell phone the way to ask what the tournament has to do. Tristan and Téa have stow away in the cargo holdbe pretty desperate.
Yugi Téa and Joey stand at the railing on the outer deck of the ship as it disembarksTristan are still hiding behind a crate. Yugi Téa says he's glad they let Joey on boardthat she needs to relieve herself, but Tristan does not want them to be spotted and Joey says it's only because Yugi sacrificed one of his Star Chips for him. If any that Téa should relieve herself over the side of the other players find out they only have one Star Chip eachship, he says, they could try to take advantage of them. So Yugi tells Joey to be quiet about itwhich Téa responds that she is not a boy. (In the Japanese versiondub, Jounouchi says it seems Téa is instead freezing, and Tristan offers solace by saying that Pegasus can do a nice thing every once in a whileanother few hours, the sun will rise. Then ) Suddenly, they see Bakura walk out onto the deck and wonder why he tells Yugi that he'll owe him for the rest of his life for this. Yugi says it's okayis there.)
They're joined Mai ValentineMeanwhile, who's curious to meet the little squirt that beat Kaiba. (Japanese Mai calls Yugi "O-chibi-chan," which is an overly familiar and rude way of calling him upset at having to stay in a room without a little guyshower.) Yugi and Joey both go all goggle-eyed over the glamorous Rex offers Maito come see his room, and Joey tries clearly attracted to attract her interest by telling her he's a good friend of . Inside the Master Duelistroom, Yugi, but Mai says she says you're either a champ or a chumploves strong men, and tells Yugi challenges Rex to cut this guy loose—he deserves to be crusheda duel. As she saunters away, Joey asks her to please crush him! She says she'll crush them bothIf Rex wins, and tells them her name is Mai Valentinewill do anything he wants. Téa overhears and is quite indignant over Mai's arrogance, saying nobody's better at Duel Monsters than Yugi(In the dub, but Tristan's just as doofy over Mai as the other boys, and warns her to be quiet or they'll hear herwill give him a kiss.)
MeanwhileElsewhere on the boat, Joey's complaining about shows Yugi the dorm room accommodations being provided results of his trading. He traded for the unranked duelists. Surely a luxury cruiser has better rooms somewhere! Pegasus' suits are threatening to throw Joey out"Salamandra", "Kunai with Chain", when "Rex RaptorBaby Dragon ", and "Weevil UnderwoodShield & Sword show up, saying that the private rooms are reserved for finalists in previous championships, like them". Yugi congratulates Weevil for winning the Regionals, while Joey brags that proclaims he and Yugi will is ready to win this tournament. Weevil says every duel he won't really consider himself a champion until he defeats the duelist who beat Kaibaplays, but he's sure he'll end up dueling Yugi in this tournament. to which Yugi cheerfully says he's looking forward to responds it. Weevil tells Yugi he'll let him in on a little secret—there are new rules on the island that will require more strategy. But Rex says rules are for wimps—in dueling, you either smash your opponent or get smashed. Joey offers his recently-learned wisdom not be that strength is good, but you also need easy and gives him "Time Wizard" to combine it with other types of cards. Rex tells him add to stay out of it, and walks away, saying he'll stomp Joey like everybody elsehis Deck.
After Back in Rex leaves's room, Weevil points out the advantage to rooming with everyone else—the opportunity to get to know their opponentsMai claims that from a shuffled deck, who are making last-minute trades she will be able to improve their deckscorrectly guess which card is on top. Yugi thinks WeeviTo Rex's pretty smartamazement, she successfully guesses the card four times in a row, claiming her "card skills" let her always know which cards she has and Joey immediately runs off to trade cardscan pick the right one at any time. But Weevil says if you've come all Despite this way and are , Rex is still trying eager to improve your deckduel Mai, with Mai adding the condition that should Rex lose, you've got Mai gets the room all to be pretty desperateherself. Then he leavesMai wins the duel and kicks Rex out of the room rather forcefully, toocommenting on how easy the duel was.
MaiBack on the deck, Weevil appears and asks Yugi if he traded for any good cards, to which Yugi says no, he will duel using the cards he brought. Weevil asks to see the legendary "Exodia" cards that Yugi used to defeat Kaiba. Weevil says that he had not been able to come up with a strategy to defeat them, until now, and throws all five cards overboard. He says that with them gone, whono one can beat him. To Yugi's furious about surprise, Joey jumps overboard in an attempt to get the communal living arrangements, cards back. Joey says that this is demanding one of thing he can do to help someone he cares about, flashing back to the suits video Serenity sent him. Joey manages to get his superiors on two of the phonecards before being hit by a big wave, when Rex shows upwhich prompts Yugi to jump into the water after him. Just as Yugi gets to him, Joey falls unconscious, telling her he's a champion with a luxury room. Mai goes all coy and wangles an invitation Yugi has to visit his room. (In the Japanesegrab him, Dinosaur invites Mai to his room without any encouragementbut they are saved by a rope ladder thrown down by Téa and Tristan.)
MeanwhileYugi thanks Téa and Tristan for saving them, wondering why they snuck on board, to which Téa's looking very uncomfortableresponds they were worried. She spots their classmate, Bakura, by Joey apologizes to Yugi for not being able to get more than two of the railingcards. But what's Joey laments that he always fails to help others, and recounts how he doing here? Tristan thinks was not even able to help Serenity, revealing that she was born with bad eyesight and is about to go blind - unless she's seeing thingsgets an expensive surgery that Joey cannot pay for. Joey says that winning at the Kingdom and getting the prize money is the only way Joey can help her.
Back in Rex Raptor's roomAs the sun rises, the island comes into view of Yugi, Mai flatters Rex for a bitJoey, then challenges him to a duelTéa and Tristan, with a kiss for who are standing together at the prize if helm. Yugi says that he winsand Joey will both do their best for their respective causes. Yami Yugi resolves to defeat Weevil first (In this is removed in the Japanese, Mai says she'll do anything he wants if he winsdub).)
Joey shows Yugi the cards he traded for: "Salamandra", "Kunai with Chain", "Baby Dragon", "Shield & Sword". Yugi says that with these new Magic Cards, Joey will have a real strong deck. Joey thinks he's ready to win every duel he plays, but Yugi says it might be a bit harder than that. He gives Joey his "Time Wizard" card to add to his deck, saying it can be helpful in a tight spot. Joey can't believe how Yugi's always helping him out. Just then, Weevil shows up, smiling slyly. Mai puts her deck on the table and tells Rex to cut the cards. If she wins, she says, he'll agree to clear out of the room for the rest of the trip. Mai says that the first card in her Deck is "Shadow of Eyes", and Rex turns it up, astonished to see that she's right. The second card is "Harpie Lady", then "Elegant Egotist" and "Cyber Shield". She always knows the cards in her Deck, she says, and can pick what she wants at any time. Rex begins to get a clue that dueling Mai might not be as easy as he thought. Out on the deck, Weevil asks Yugi if he traded for any good cards, but Yugi says he's going to stick with the cards he brought. Weevil says he figured as much, and asks Yugi about his Exodia cards, asking if he could possibly see them? Naively, Yugi hands Weevil the cards, telling him to be careful with them. Weevil says that for a long time, he's been trying to think of a strategy to defeat Exodia, but he couldn't come up with anything—until now. He throws the cards overboard, and walks away laughing, saying that now there's no one who can challenge him. Yugi is distraught, explaining that those were the Exodia cards his Grandpa gave him! Joey jumps into the ocean to try to retrieve them. Yugi shouts at Joey that the cards aren't worth drowning over, but Joey tells him not to worry. He finds one of the cards, but Yugi calls out to him to swim back to the ship. Joey refuses, saying that this time, there's something he can do to help someone he cares about. If he punks out now, who's going to help his sister, Serenity? Joey finds one more of the cards before the current overcomes him. Then Yugi jumps in after him. Joey begins to sink into the sea, and Yugi swims down and pulls him back to the surface. Téa and Tristan throw a rope ladder down to them, and they're saved. Mai tosses a humiliated Rex Raptor out of his room. Back aboard the ship, Yugi thanks Téa and Tristan for their help. They say they're a team, and they all stick together. Joey apologizes for not being able to find all the cards. Yugi tells him it's okay, but Joey's upset that he couldn't help. He can't help anybody, he says, and tells them about his sister, Serenity—she's losing her eyesight, and without an expensive operation, she'll soon go permanently blind. He's hoping to win the prize money to pay for her eye operation. The four friends stand in the bow of the ship together, as it approaches Duelist Kingdom. They'll both do their best, Yugi says. Joey for his sister, and Yugi for his Grandpa. == Changes to the English version == * In the dub when Yugi is on the Domino High School roof he wonders why Pegasus stole his Grandpa's soul and what does Pegasus want with him, and he vows to get Grandpa back. * When the guards are grabbing Joey inside the ship and Rex approaches, in the English dub Rex mouths something but doesn't speak. This is because in the Japanese version, Rex is asking what the noise is about.
* When Joey jumps in the sea to save the Exodia cards, and when Yugi saves him from drowning, he is briefly seen with his Domino High School uniform.
* Both versions show "Time Wizard" as a Normal Monster when Yugi first presents the card to Joey, though the English dub fixes this error in the close-up shot.

* This marks the first episode to not feature duelingunless you count the snippet of Mai vs. Rex.
