- "Ryu" is the Japanese word for "dragon".
- In its various appearances in the dub of the anime, this card's name has consistently been mispronounced. The closest Anglicized equivalent to its written name is "Ree-you"; Seto Kaiba has pronounced it as "Rai-you", and Yami Yugi as "Roo".
