Shoichi is a rather friendly individual. He's shown to be sympathetic towards Yusaku and hopes he can one day enjoy Dueling again. He also regrets dragging him into the fight against the Knights of Hanoi.
Unlike Behind his friendly easy-going nature, Shoichi harbors an intense anger and hatred towards the [[Hanoi Project]] just like Yusaku, Shoichi though he doesn't seem to actively show hatred towards Hanoi. Howeverit unless triggered enough, like when he showed intense anger when listening listened to [[Akira Zaizen]] talk about the possibility of losing Aoi, claiming someone shouldnbeing kidnapped. Shoichi angrily said that Akira doesn't tell him they know the horrible trauma he felt.

Shoichi's [[Shoichi's brother|younger brother]] was kidnapped by for the [[Knights of HanoiProject]] in the past. At some pointEven though his brother was rescued, he still suffered intense PTSD that he apparently never recovered from, prompting Shoichi and Yusaku began fighting to fight against the Knights of Hanoi, whom they believed to be responsible for the incident, to get revenge.<ref name="ep1">{{episode|Yu-Gi-Oh!
