The links for trivia and tips and such link to the other Obelisk the Tormentor's pages.--64.79.179.254 19:42, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

They are supposed to, since a lot of the content is the same. Obelisk the Tormentor (DDM) also shares "Other Card Information" pages with the other two. -- Deltaneos (talk) 19:46, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Will they release Slifer and Ra too? 4.159.62.85 02:33, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Would also like to know this.. playable Ra would be frakk'n awesome! 86.27.223.19 05:54, November 12, 2009 (UTC)

Effect Ra is already out in Japan. Don't get too excited, the card sucks, I've seen it's lore in English. Effect Obelisk could beat it anyday. SpaceGhidorah 07:02, January 3, 2010 (UTC)

Rename?

This page should be renamed to Great Divine Soldier of Obelisk, as that is this card's Japanese name in actuality, and it's confusing for two "Obelisk the Tormentor" pages. --68.80.118.41 21:06, 6 March 2009 (UTC)Message courtesy of Snapesnatch. I've run out of ideas for ads. JUST BUY THE STINKING BOWTIE ALREADY!

That is the translation of the Japanese name. Same with the other "Obelisk". It's a different version of the same card, "Obelisk the Tormentor" is obviously the English name. -- Deltaneos (talk) 19:46, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
I see. I've never been good with common sense. Now, how do I post this... --68.80.118.41 20:58, 7 March 2009 (UTC) Message courtesy of Snapesnatch. Don't make me repeat myself again. Buy the bowtie. Now.

Why not "Obelisk the LEGAL Tormentor?" It'll say that the monster is legal enough for tournament play, and it's simple.

Notable Ruling, and ramifications for Translation of Effect

http://yugioh.faq.konami.jp/EokpControl?&lang=en&tid=47761&event=FE0006 has some information not yet added to the Rulings page.

Although it probably seems that someone wouldn't want ever to, Konami has clarified the limiting factors on Obelisk's Summoning Condition - we can't Set it from our hands.

This hasn't been seen on a card before; I would argue that it is something distinctly specific to Obelisk's text, as if "このカードを通常召喚する場合、自分フィールド上のモンスター3体をリリースして召喚しなければならない" does not mean that it simply costs 3 Tributes to Normal Summon Obelisk, but almost like there's an additional clause to say "also, you must Summon it, not Set it". Take a close look at the text; notice how it says "自分フィールド上のモンスター3体をリリースして召喚しなければならない". While it may be translatable as "it cannot be done without Tributing 3 monsters", this does not account for all of the text.

To be literal, we must translate it as "it cannot be done without Tributing 3 monsters and Normal Summoning."

I have since edited the effect myself to reflect these findings. 136.227.149.27 06:04, 30 May 2009 (UTC) Atem

Getting the Legal Tormentor

Besides EBay, does anybody know how to get this version of Obelisk?

All I know is that it is related to the Shonen jump Magezines, and that is it. 97.102.207.110 23:26, November 26, 2009 (UTC)Seadra147

It was released in this month's Shonen Jump. Go to a place you can buy manga, or magazines. The magazine is like $5.00 and it comes with Obelisk. Got one myself. ~NOTASTAFF Ryun Uchiha (Ten Tailed Fox, Getsueikirite-taichou) (talk) 22:37, November 29, 2009 (UTC)
Well, I live in Mexico and it was quite easy to find here, I don't think its so hard to get. --Dragon Slayer (Contribs Count) 03:50, November 30, 2009 (UTC)
So...Shonen Jump is a magazine? Sweet... — This unsigned comment was made by Seadra147 (talkcontribs) 22:14, December 3, 2009

Effect...

Can Obelisks "destroy all monsters" effect be used during my opponents turn? Cuz both me & my friend have it, and when I was gonna destroy it, he used it's effect, but it was my turn. SpaceGhidorah 07:04, January 3, 2010 (UTC)

Tribute 2 to destroy monsters is an Ignition Effect. Basic gameplay rulings say that Ignition Monster Effects can only be used during your own Main Phases. Falzar FZ 06:22, March 8, 2010 (UTC)

can a card such as lightning vortex destroy obelisk? it doesn't technically target only him, so would it's effect still follow through?69.239.101.42 06:11, March 8, 2010 (UTC)R3DEX March 7, 2010

As you said. lightning vortex does not target, so it can kill Obelisk. Falzar FZ 06:22, March 8, 2010 (UTC)

it saids card effects can not be activated, what does that mean? Is it permanent, is it for the turn? I really don't understand it.

It is only when Obelisk been summoned. Example when opponent summon Obelisk, you can't activate Trap Hole.Omegamon 15:07, March 21, 2010 (UTC)

r u sure? because then ra really sucks...

It only lasts for the turn he's summoned in. If it was for the whole Duel, it'd be the most broken card ever. SpaceGhidorah 13:39, April 7, 2010 (UTC)

Question regarding Obelisk's effect.

Now, when you use Obelisk's effect to sacrifice two monsters and destroy all monsters on your opponent's side of the field and inflict 4000 points of direct damage, can you do that more than once? Because for other ignition effect monsters, it specifically states (on all the ones I've seen) that you can use it once per turn. So would it be possible to play scapegoat, and use Obelisk's effect twice to inflict 8000 points of damage to the opponent?

Oh, and would Obelisk be affected by Divine Wrath? I don't think he would but I'm not completely sure. — This unsigned comment was made by 173.17.11.8 (talkcontribs)

If you read the card, it says "You can Tribute 2 monsters to destroy all monsters your opponent controls."
It doesn't say anything about inflicting 4000 damage...
Falzar FZ 05:42, April 9, 2010 (UTC)
also if you read the it, it says you cant declare an attack after using that effect so i don't know how your getting 4000 damage after words

from the hand

when someone said it can be targeted by lightning vortex it is not because technically it target all monsters on the field. obelisk is unaffected by cards such as card destruction as well as different dimension capsule because it is also targeting that card (obelisk the tormentor). its pretty much a sick card
