Alignment, also known as Summon (召喚 Shōkan), is a card property used in the early Gameboy Duel Monsters rules. Alignments appear in Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters II: Dark duel Stories, Yu-Gi-Oh! Dark Duel Stories, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters 4: Battle of Great Duelist, Yu-Gi-Oh! The Sacred Cards, Yu-Gi-Oh! Reshef of Destruction, and Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories.

Alignment is a card property used in some video games. Cards or particular Alignments have strengths and weaknesses against cards or other particular alignments.

The name "Summon" is used consistently throughout the Japanese games. The North American English Dark Duel Stories uses the name "Alignment". The European English Dark Duel Stories uses the name "Attribute". The English The Sacred Cards and Reshef of Destruction use the name "Summon".

Although not referred to as Alignments, their earliest mention is in the manga during Yugi and Pegasus' TV Duel. Alignments are used in some video games. The Bandai OCG adopted some the mentioned Alignments as Types. Konami's OCG and TCG have adopted some as Types and some as Attributes.

Cards of particular Alignments have strengths and weaknesses against cards of other particular alignments. There are four Magic User Alignments, six elemental Alignments, and the Divine Alignment.

The Alignments are as follows:

In Forbidden Memories, each Alignment with the exception of Divine is represented with a Guardian Star.

In the manga, the four types of Magic users, Fire, Water, Thunder are mentioned. All of the above ones are used in video games. Some English video games refer to Black Magic, White Magic, Demon Magic, Illusion Magic, Water, Fire and Divine as Shadow, Light, Fiend, Dreams, Aqua, Pyro and Devine respectively. In the Bandai game, the four Magic users are used as Types. In the OCG and TCG, Water, Wind, Fire and Earth are used as Attributes, although Earth uses different kanji, Thunder and Demon have Type equivalents; Thunder and Fiend, while the other Magic users are classed as Spellcaster-Type.
Alignments are for the most part derived from concepts from the early manga Duel Monsters. In the manga, the four Magic Users were Types, five of the six elements were Attributes and Divine was used to describe the Egyptian God cards. The strengths and weaknesses of the Magic Users and some of the elements were taken from the manga.
