Q&A Rulings

  • Q: There are 2 copies of "Trickstar Black Catbat" in my Main Monster Zones co-linked to one another. If my opponent activates "Dark Hole" and destroys both monsters, will the effect of each "Trickstar Black Catbat" that inflicts damage to my opponent apply?
A: The effect of "Trickstar Black Catbat" that inflicts damage to your opponent is a Continuous Effect. As in this scenario, if "Trickstar Black Catbat" and a monster that it points to are destroyed at the same time, the effect that inflicts damage is not applied.[1]
  • Q: "Trickstar Black Catbat" is in my Main Monster Zone, and a "Trickstar Narkissus" that it pointed to is destroyed, so the effect of "Trickstar Black Catbat" inflicts 200 damage to my opponent. After that, even if there are no other monsters that "Trickstar Black Catbat" points to, will its effect that reduces the ATK of all monsters on my opponent's field activate?
A: Even in this scenario, since your opponent took damage from the effect of a "Trickstar" monster, the effect of "Trickstar Black Catbat" that reduces the ATK of your opponent's monsters must activate. When resolving the effect, if it point to no monsters, the ATK of your opponent's monsters is not reduced. (If you chain the effect of "Trickstar Reincarnation" in your Graveyard, for example, and Special Summon a "Trickstar" monster to a Monster Zone that "Trickstar Black Catbat" points to, your opponent's monsters will lose ATK.)[2]
