Those who fell in the Great War against the "Worms" that happened so long ago... the mechanical dolls known as the "Allies of Justice" and the "Genex"... the past heroes of "Mist Valley"... all of them were taken over and corrupted... and yes, even the fallen corpses of the "Worms" ended up corrupted, too...

The tribes that currently live on the surface are derived, and have evolved, from those original tribes.
