Okay, Player A has two Six Samurai on the field. One is attacked by Player B's monster. Player A decides to destroy the other Samurai. Would Player A take damage, and if so, would he take damage equal to the difference of the destroyed samurai and the attacking monster, or the surviving samurai and the attacking monster? • I think I get what you mean, though your phrasing is a little confusing lol. Here's a hypothetical that should hopefully explain it.

Suppose I have Six Samurai Yariza (1000atk) and Six Samurai Irou (1700atk) on the field. My opponent attacks with a monster with, say, 2500atk. He attacks Yariza, and I will still take 1500 damage, but I can choose to change which monster gets destroyed.

I believe that's how it works.

Damage Calculation is applied as it would have been, despite using the effect to change which samurai is destroyed.
