Forum:Deck Types and Tips?

Hi, I'm planning to get some Yu-Gi-Oh cards sometime... but I can't decide on what deck archetype to use. Is it possible if someone listed the common deck types (Burn, Beatdown, etc), and say how popular they are, their strengths, weaknesses and whether they would recommend them? At the moment, I'm considering building a Burn deck. Thanks in advance. --HybridDragoness 00:27, May 24, 2010 (UTC)

control-beatdown type decks (like x-sabers), and swarm/super-fast-synchro archtypes (Blackwings, Infernities, etc.), are the most popular. Burn isn't very popular, nor is mill, though both can be quite effective.

The weakness of control decks is that they don't really have a win option. and the weakness of non-control decks is that they have very little control, so usually one will build a deck with aspects of both.

Ex: Stall-control for burn or mill, which allows them to keep the fast decks at bay while their slow tactics build up.

The problem with mill and Burn is that usually they win very slowly, giving their opponent plenty of opportunities to disrupt their strategy, and rely heavily on control aspects to keep the opponent at bay while they burn away their LP or deck.

Swarm/fast-synchro decks are weak most to decks they use disruption tactics. Cutting off their speed or disrupting their hand usually limits their options. Unfortunately, Synchro gives access to many different options which allows incredible flexibility to counter another deck's strategies.

There are also Spin and Bounce decks, not all that popular. Spin puts cards on top of the deck, creating disruption and sometimes lockdown. Usually they have low atk, are slow, and are weak to fast/swarm decks, unless they can cause early disruption. Bounce puts the cards on the field back in the opponent's hand, wasting their turn, and usually uses discard disruption to limit options, they are also weak to a deck that can push forward quickly or disrupt their own strategy.
