Forum:Hunter Owl and Command Knight vs Marauding Captain and Dupe Frog

From the way I understand the wording on the cards, "Hunter Owl" and "Command Knight" state that they cannot be the target of an attack if there is another monster on the field (or wind monster in the case of "Hunter Owl"). If by the standard that "The Legendary Fisherman" alone on the opposing field (with Umi in play) allows a player to attack the controller of "The Legendary Fisherman" directly because "it cannot be the target of an attack", should two "Hunter Owl" (or Command Knight") on the opposing field with the same "it cannot be the target of an attack" effect allow the same right to a direct attack? If the wording on the cards were to state:"You must target a monster other than this monster" and the two were on the field, then I could understand the two targets directing an attack into each other eliminating any choice but the actual case seems to call for a direct attack being allowed if you consider the ruling on "The Legendary Fisherman". Opposite to this, Marauding Captain and Dupe Frog require to be the target before all other monsters (or warrior types) on the field denoting that the player attackign the field with the monsters in unable to target either, but not without the ability to target them by standard that they "cannot be the target of an attack" so they would indeed be a legitamite lockdown. Any insight on this matter would be appreciated.

  • ) The Legendary Fisherman's effect reads: Monsters on your opponent's side of the field cannot select this card as an attack target.
  • ) Hunter Owl's effect reads: While there is another WIND monster on your side of the field, your opponent cannot select this card as an attack target.
  • ) Command Knight's effect reads: As long as at least 1 other monster exists on your side of the field, your opponent cannot select this card as an attack target.
  • ) Marauding Captain's effect reads: Your opponent cannot select another Warrior-Type monster you control as an attack target.
  • ) Dupe Frog's effect reads: Your opponent cannot select another monster as an attack target.
If a monster mentions that it cannot be attacked by the opponent's monsters (like The Legendary Fisherman), then the opponent can attack directly.
If a monster mentions that the opponent cannot select it a an attack target (like Hunter Owl, Command Knight, Dupe Frog, Marauding Captain), then the opponent cannot declare an attack.
I hope that helps! ATEMVEGETA (Talk) 07:17, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
