Forum:Necrobumpers

Greetings,

I'm sure some of you have noticed of late, a number of posts are being necrobumped, to great annoyance of many (esp' Lappy),

Would it be acceptable for there to be a message at the top of the Deck Help forum along the lines of:

Please Note: if the last comment for a deck was over 3(?) months ago, it is unlikely anyone will respond. so don't necrobump.

& Yes. that attempt at a message was horrible :3, but I assume the idea is clear,

Thoughts?

It's possible to add a message to the header template that will only appear if the page has been unedited for a certain amount of time. It's also possible to make the edit button unclickable and change its label to something like "archived". Here's an example on another wiki. -- Deltaneos (talk) 17:01, February 28, 2011 (UTC)
That... Seems perfect, would I be able to request it implemented? unless anyone disagrees for the odd 1 or 2 people who re-open their old posts every 6 months for a new banlist, though of course it would require discusion on time & message and such :3-Resk (Talk) 17:06, February 28, 2011 (UTC)
I'll go ahead and add it. In the event an old topic does need to be revisited, it'll still be possible to edit the old pages. You can go to the page history and then click edit or add ?action=edit to the url. But the setup, should be enough to stop people who don't understand the problem in editing the particular forums. -- Deltaneos (talk) 17:11, February 28, 2011 (UTC)

YES. People always necrobump and I don't realize it, and post, and then someone points it out to me and then: [1] It's very annoying. Lappyzard (talkcontribs) 20:09, February 28, 2011 (UTC)

I know I am not an admin here, so please forgive me if I sound out of line, but while this idea is a good one, the implementation needs a little work. I am seeing threads getting hit with this that are being updated on an almost hourly basis. What really needs to be taken care of is people inserting posts in between other people's posts. This problem really makes it hard to follow a discussion, and even harder to find my own previous posts, when people place their posts between a post and the signature of the poster.

Though it's a bit of a hassle, you can always just look at the edit history and see what was changed. Lappyzard (talkcontribs) 20:44, February 28, 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the tip. I will keep that in mind for next time.

While we're on the topic, somone delete this: http://yugioh.wikia.com/index.php?title=Forum:Rate_my_deck%3F&t=20110228212845 XD -Resk (Talk) 21:33, February 28, 2011 (UTC)
I've deleted the recent edits to that forum. It's page history now stops at 31 December 2010, which is enough for the anti-bumping stuff to take effect. -- Deltaneos (talk) 21:50, February 28, 2011 (UTC)
For the record, it's currently set so that threads older than 40 days become archived. -- Deltaneos (talk) 22:03, February 28, 2011 (UTC)
