Forum:Need help speeding my "underdog" otk deck =)

Hello all!

I have put together what is, apparently, one of the the rarest and seemingly harmless decks. It is a deck filled completely with normal monsters. All the monsters... are only level 2. The deck depends on swarming the field with the "weak" critters and then super charing them with Thousand Energy and then making way for their newfound power to hit the opponent's life points with The Law of The Normal. =)

It's a fun deck to play with. Everyone I played with looked at my field like "Wtf?". And if I got lucky (which is what I'm trying to fix, luck should be ruled out of a good deck in my opinion), I'd whip out my combo for an "embarassing" OTK. =)

Anyways, here is what I have so far:

---

Monsters - (ALL are 2 star-no-effect monsters.)

2x Dharma Cannon

2x Kagemusha of the Blue Flame

3x Firegrass

2x Fiend Scorpion

3x Man Eater

3x Atlantean Pikeman (the "heavy hitters" of my deck XD)

3x Petit Dragon

1x Souls of the Forgotten

Magics/Traps -

2x Heart of the Underdog (DEFINITELY need a 3rd)

1x Level Limit - Area B

3x Enchanting Fitting Room

1x Ultimate Offering

1x Fake Trap (My only defense for my ever-necessary traps)

1x Gravity Bind

2x Thousand Energy (I'm messing around to see if 3 or just 2 are needed, so far 2 works ok)

3x The Law of the Normal (Use this just after Thousand Energy to open the field for the OTK ;) Or use it prematurely to mess the opponent up )

3x Different Dimension Capsule (I think of these as an "extension card" as far as drawing what I need. I usually pull out Heart OT Underdog or Human-Wave Tactics)

3x Human-Wave Tactics (Preserves my critter swarm, as long as the opponent attacks WHILE slimming the deck so I have more chance to draw what I need =) )

3x Common Charity (The Allure of Darkness of normal decks)

1x Swords of Revealing Light

2x Skill Drain (REALLY messes up other people's strategies while not doing crap to me XD )

---

The card count is 43, which is a tad much, but still rather slim I think (I deck out MUCH faster than my opponents usually). I really cannot see myself shrinking the deck much, but I know it needs fixing. It's such a fun deck to use (and especially to win with) but it takes too long to setup the OTK. It CAN be done pretty freaking quickly (turn 1 if I get the absolute god-hand that'd make Yugi piss himself.), but I'm looking to make the deck work CONSISTENTLY quickly whilst attempting to stall cause... well the little guys are no match for even most of the front-liners of popular decks. The opponent will usually laugh knowing his Sangan might actually serve him better than whatever he might've fetched with it. I laugh harder when they activate Crush Card... but must place my hand over my deck if they use Deck Devastation Virus. :(

The trick is to get the right Magics (or Spells, whatever. I still call them Magic :p ) and Traps to make up for all the monsters' lack of effects. A hard task to do.

So there you go. Any ideas/suggestions on making this deck from "fun but..." to "fun... and kick ass!"? =)

If needed, I have 3 Flame Dancers to throw in, to help balance the monster/magic&trap ratio (which is already tipping too much on the magic&trap side). I already know about and am currently trying to acquire "The League of Uniform Nomenclature".

  • Ahh, a Law of Normal deck. That's a good way to humiliate your opponent if you can properly pull it off. Personally, when I construct one I go for level 1 monsters than Level 2...Triangle Power gives you more of a kick for your money at a 2000 + ATK boost rather than a 1000 + for monsters that generally are only a couple hundred points higher than a respective level 1. Plus you can then use Charcoal Inpachi which has a *really* high defense for a monster of its level, almost unheard of really. If you do it right you're going to have a bunch of lowbies you can put to work for you, so Order to Smash and Order to Charge can help. But the next best thing to using Law of the Normal in a deck like this, I've found, is Sword of the Soul-Eater, if you use it you can get a Skull Servant (not a KotSS, a regular one) with 4000 ATK. Stuff like Symbols of Duty or Amulet of Ambition can help too, if you knock down a very strong monster you can give up a weak normal to summon it back to your side. Hope that helps. Yep, I found a Triangle Power and immediately searched for 1 star monsters and for more Triangle Powers, but found I had far more 2 star cards. I'd have picked the 1 star deck purely cause... 2000 > 1000 power up, so I'd only need 4 monsters on the field with safe passage to attack. lol But I only have 1 Triangle Power. =(

Hm, I do have Sword of the Soul-Eaters, but I thought those would do more harm than good, since I'd be killing off all but one of my monsters. And killing the lone monster afterwards isn't difficult... but I'll toy with it. =) I can already imagine it working as not a half-bad stall with Skill Drain, or a surprise attacker.

Symbol of Duty... guess I'll go for a few more Tactical Evolution boosters. My only problem with it is that it ties it's fate to the monster it brings back. Once I use Law of the Normal, the monster that was brought back will be taken away. But if things were going well before I use Law of the Normal, and I had already done damage previously (something suddenly easy to do with Sword of the Soul-Eater), then missing one monster is forgivable (And as mentioned above with a 1 star monster deck, practically not a worry).

Thanks! =)

If there's anymore ideas, keep em coming! =D

Whoops, I hadn't read what Symbol of Duty did very well. XD

I saw it and understood that it was like a Premature Burial for normal monsters. lol It's interesting, killing one of my own to bring back any other monster from either graveyard... can't see it helping with the OTK though.

Oh! I found a good card that works GREAT for this deck; Pot of Avarice! =D lol

Don't know why I didn't think of it before.

change LV2s to LV1s and use triangle power its faster kill

Guess I could dedicate more time to getting the 1 star monsters and the 2 missing Triangle Powers, but for now, 2 star monsters are what I've got.

Yep... I've made the deck in Yugioh Tag Force 2 (PSP game), made many changes, and found that the deck just does not work well enough. Reason being that too many cards that are too easy to lose are needed. So, I made changes in the virtual deck so it'd be only 1 star monsters... and it changed drastically. As soon as I was summoning Charcoal Inpachis and D.D. Trainers, the field consistently filled up in duels and I was able to hold out for Triangle Power and Law of the Normal. I laughed when one of my opponents (in the psp game) used Ring of Destruction (banned) on one of my souped up monsters, and I was still able to OTK him. Not possible with the 2 star monster deck.

So I guess that's all that can be done... switch in the "stronger" monsters for the lower stuff.

  • You should max out Skill Drain and put in Inferno Reckless Summon. That will give you the speed you seek. You will need some means of special summoning a normal monster though, and that should be easy with your Enchanting Fitting Room. You should also add Monster Reborn and Premature Burial too. And of course before the OTK via Inferno Reckless, the Thousand Energy/Triangle Power along with The Law of the Normal should always be used in conjunction. I'm working on one of these kinds of decks too. Cheers. Chris427 23:57, 4 June 2008 (UTC)Chris427

Ok, after some friends of mine and I were messing around with the deck composition, and I tested on Yugioh TagForce 2 and tweaked a tad more, the result is a deck that can, on average I'd say, OTK in about 7 or less turns.

3x Charcoal Inpachi 2x Common Charity 1x Crush Card 3x D.D. Trainer 2x Dark Bribe 2x Different Dimension Capsule 2x Enchanting Fitting Room 3x Goblin Calligrapher 1x Gravity Bind 1x Justi-Break 1x Level Limit Area B 1x Messenger of Peace 1x Mirror Force 3x Oppressed People 3x Skull Servant 3x Solemn Judgment 2x Law of Normal 3x League of Uniform Nomenclature 3x Triangle Power

I'm still wondering how to compress the deck while adding a card as seemingly necessary as Skill Drain and, of course, Inferno Reckless Summon, but so far this setup is the fastest I have made (In the game, at least - out in RL, people and their decks are far more competent... usually =P).

As can be seen, the deck can run Crush Card quite well cause of all the weak dark monsters, and Allure of Darkness. =) It's complete garbage that Allure isn't in the game I use to test decks though (which is why it isn't listed here)... >[ For the sake of seeing if it's worth being put in the deck, I replaced Allure in the game with Justi-Break. (I do not recommend that card for this deck, it's just asking for trouble to leave any of these monsters in attack mode while not prepared.) Eminentjonfrost 07:17, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Maybe "Common Charity" would help....

There are 2 Common Charities in the latest build (that I posted). Man this deck is extremely tough to pull off...
