Forum:Question about ancient gear monsters effect

I mean the effect of avoiding the opponent's activation of S/T until the end of the damage step. Why can be Magic cylinder activated and negate attack cannot? In fact, I believe it should be the opposite way. With negate attack you are negating an attack declaration (not a real attack), meanwhile magic cylinder text says that it negates an attack, so I think ancient gear effect shouldn't allow this card activation.

Can you explain me the reason why this happens?ç

Well I just realized that magic cylinder activates because it's considered that the monster has attacked. Anyway, changing to negate attack effect an attack declaration is considered as if the monster is already attacking, is that correct? I have this doubt.

Well this is the way it appears on the anime. A magic cylinder was played to return an attack from an ancient gear golem, and a negate attack couldn't be activated in response of an attack from an ancient gear soldier . Maybe it was a mistake.

  • Um, you can't play "Magic Cylinder" OR "Negate Attack" against an Ancient Gear Soldier/Golem/etc. attack. Whoever is telling you they can is cheating. Danny Lilithborne 05:17, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
    • The anime is never a reliable source of information about how cards work. In that particular instance, Syrus used "Jetroid"'s effect to activate "Magic Cylinder" from his hand, a move that wouldn't be possible because of Ancient Gear Golem's effect. Danny Lilithborne 04:30, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
