Sorry if this topic has already been raised, but I was wondering on the recommended course of action concerning the recent Mediawiki SMW problems the site's been having (cf message: Due to recent problems, the MediaWiki extension SMW has temporarily been disabled on this wiki. As a result, many pages may not function correctly. We apologize for the inconvenience.). Are we encouraged to stop editing pages until the problem is sorted (and if that's the case, is there an estimate on how long it's going to take?), or can we just continue editing as normal? Will all the pages be automatically fixed out once the SMW problem is fixed? I get the feeling that any edits we make now will have to be re-made later on because pages don't save properly. Just wondering if the staff laid out any specific instructions about this... (Mpanty 09:42, 30 August 2009 (UTC))
- It's not that pages are saving incorrectly. Since there were thousands of pages using SMW when it got removed, it takes a lot of time for the changes to take effect. (The job queue mentioned here will be a high number in cases like this this.) All the pages using it are technically broken, but we're still seeing older versions, while we wait for the change to fully take effect. Whenever you save a page, its cache automatically gets cleared (i.e. it's forced to show the newest version.)
- So, yes, feel free to keep editing pages. Once we get SMW back, the techs should clear the job queue and force all pages on their updated (fixed) versions.
- As for how long before we get it back... I don't know. SMW usage on the Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki was causing a hugh strain on Wikia servers, when it shouldn't have been. The techs had to remove it from this site for that reason. When they find out why it was straining the servers like that and get it fixed, they'll re-install it here. -- Deltaneos (talk) 15:23, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
