Forum:Yami vs Joey: Rematch Winner

In the show, after Yami Yugi wins Red-Eyes Black Dragon back, Joey tells him to keep it since he's not worthy enough and he'll get it back when he's a "true duelist" and duels Yami for it. However, after all the chaos in both Battle City arcs, we only get to see Yami and Joey prepare to duel, not the outcome.

Who do you think would have won? Joey did get the card back and used it in the next seasons, so did he win? Or do you think it was a draw, kind of like in the duel when mind-controlled Joey fought Yugi, and therefore still got it? Or do you think Yami won but gave it back to him after Joey proved himself worthy, showing Yami his good dueling skills in a difficult duel? Yami isn't invincible, since the real Yugi defeats him much later in the ceremonial duel, but if Joey won, then wouldn't Yami Yugi have also lost the title "King of Games"?

There are ways that, whether or not Joey won the actual duel, he still could have proven himself worthy and won his Red-Eyes back. For example, Joey could have given Yami Yugi a very hard duel and shown him just how "true" he and his duelist skills had become. Also, he had already been proving himself worthy, since he gave Kaiba a run for his money when he dueled him for 3rd place in the finals and although still lost, even Mokuba was impressed by how Joey had dueled his older brother. And beforehand, Joey dueled Yami Marik and survived the attack from Ra, and Kaiba thought that perhaps he wasn't an amateur after all, despite still being rude to him; Joey was about to win but finally, due to the shadow magic making him lose energy, didn't finish calling out the attack that would have won him the duel--you could consider Joey the true winner, since if it hadn't been a Shadow Game, then he would definitely have won, as some fans say.

So...do you think there was an actual winner--if so, which one--or just a draw? And do you think that Joey, showing Yami how far he had come as a duelist, would have accepted the card, even in loss, if Joey was satisfied with his skills that he had demonstrated to his best friend?Mistystar31 (talk • contribs) 21:50, March 9, 2015 (UTC)
