When Atem chased Bakura out of the palace, Yugi, Jonouchi, Anzu, Honda and [[Bobasa (manga)|Bobasa]] spotted him and recognized him as [[Dark Yugi (manga)|Dark Yugi]], but he was moving too quickly to notice them.<ref name="mw d 22" /> The group went after Atem and caught up with him just after Slifer was defeated. Yugi shared his strength with Atem, replenishing his ba gauge, allowing him to summon [[The Winged Dragon of Ra (manga character)|The Sun Dragon Ra]].<ref name="mw d 25" />
The light from Ra, the god of the sun, lit up the sky and exposed Diabound. Diabound attacked Ra with the "Thunder Force" attack it had gained in defeating Slifer, but Duos managed to deflect the attack with an "Aura Sword" blast. Ra then transformed into God Phoenix and attacked Diabound, destroying it.<ref name="mw d 26">{{chapter|Yu-Gi-Oh! Millennium World|26|ref}}</ref> The toll it took on Bakura's ba and killed him.<ref name="mw d 27">{{chapter|Yu-Gi-Oh! Millennium World|27|ref}}</ref> Atem thanked his friends for helping him. They were relieved to see he had maintained his memories of them and explained they were in a [[World of Memories]].<ref name="mw d 27" />
[[Dark Bakura (manga)|Dark Bakura]] was not happy with the interference, since he knew that Thief Bakura had originally been the one to win the fight. He reported the incident to the [[Zorc Necrophades (manga)|Zorc Necrophades]], who had entered the World of Memories. Zorc then appeared in the sky and introduced himself to Atem, before using his "Memory Reverse" ability to undo the recent events, including the defeat of Diabound and Thief Bakura.<ref name="mw d 27" />
After witnessing Slifer being destroyed again after the time reversal, Yugi and his friends rushed to help Atem, but were stopped by Dark Bakura this time. Dark Bakura admitted his motives were in reviving Zorc Necrophades. When Jonouchi tried to force his way past him, Dark Bakura used the power of his Millennium Ring to knock him back.<ref name="mw d 28" /> Dark Bakura explained that both the pharaoh and Zorc's souls had been sealed within the Millennium Puzzle and only one of them would be able made clear his motives to return to the modern world. He also revealed that he was a fragment of aid Zorc's soul, which had been sealed in the Millennium Ring. Using the reality-warping powers he possessed in the World of Memories, Dark Bakura caused a [[Duel Disk]] to form on his arm. He invited Yugi and his friends to do the same and challenged them to a [[Shadow Game]] of ''[[Duel Monsters]]'', in which the loser would die. Jonouchi stepped up the challengeDueled him first, but was almost lost immediately. He was saved as the world plunged into darkness when Atem fell into the chasm.<ref name="mw d 29" />
