Damage Step
===[[Damage Step]]===
* The Damage Step is composed of a series of separate events. : The start of the Damage Step, flipping the face-down attacked monster face-up(if applicable), damage calculation, inflicting Battle Damagebattle damage, activating the [[Flip Effect effect]] of the flipped monster(if applicable), and sending a monster any monsters destroyed by battle to the Graveyard are separate events that all happen during the Damage Step.
* The Damage Step has specific rules that govern what can or cannot be activated. Refer to the [[Damage Step]] article for more information.
* The Damage Step can be thought of as being made up of '"substeps'", but this is not strictly true. It is a continuum, with several actions happening in sequence.
====Start of the Damage Step====
As soon as the Damage Step is entered, immediately apply the [[Continuous Effect]]s of any monsters that apply "during the Damage Step (only)", such as those of "[[Steamroid]]" and "[[Crystal Beast Topaz Tiger]]".
Next, the Trigger Effects of monsters that activate "at the start of the Damage Step" activate now (if triggered appropriately), such as those of "[[Neo-Spacian Grand Mole]]" and the "[[Mystic Swordsman]]” cards" monsters. The effects of cards like "[[Nanobreaker]]" and "[[Disciple of the Forbidden Spell]]" would that state "without (applying) damage calculation" also activate nowat this point.
* Note that the monster has not been flipped face-up at this point:
** If the effect requires the opponent's monster be face-up, either directly or indirectly (such as "[[Ally of Justice Catastor]]") then it will not activate to destroy a face-down monster.
*A Counter on a "[[B.E.S.]]" monster or on "[[Big Core]]" is removed. If "[[Des Mosquito]]" was destroyed by the battle, 1 counter is removed. If "[[Spacegate]]" is active, 1 Gate Counter is placed upon it if the opponent’s monster attacked or was attacked.
Once the game state is open again, return to the Damage Step.
