Modified cards
Some cards have their effects modified from the TCG and OCG to suit the Speed Duel format. With the exception of "Crystal Beast Emerald Tortoise", cards with modified effects began to be released on September 29, 2020. Starting in June 2022, these cards are marked with a "DL" icon in the shop (but not in most other locations). So far, these changes have only been applied to Speed Duels and not Rush Duels, as the only major change to Rush Duels is the difference in starting Life Points.
;Due to starting with 4000 LP in Speed Duels* As each player starts with 4000 LP(half of the starting 8000 LP used in the TCG/OCG), all many effects that inflict damage were deemed to inflict too much damage. All cards released from September 29, 2020 onward that inflict effect damage to the opponent (and in some cases, even cards that inflict effect damage to the player) have that damage halved.** Cards released prior that date were not changed, except "Lava Golem" and . Cards that were exclusive to opponents but not obtainable by the player (such as "Magic CylinderEctoplasmer" (although the latter was ), or exclusive to the Extra Card Booster Item). Cards that were exclusive to opponents but not obtainable by the player (such as "EctoplasmerMagic Cylinder") , have their damage halved upon release, and from that point onward . This change then also impacts the effects when cards used by opponents match and added by the released versionExtra Card item.** This also applies to cards that have not appeared in the TCG and OCG (i.e. video game-exclusive cards) that are released in Duel Links from September 29, 2020 onward. These cards have their effect damage halved relative their appearances in previous video games.* ;Due to the a lack of a Main Phase 2, cards with effects that require Main Phase 2 have their effects modified.** Monsters with Ignition Effects that can only be activated during Main Phase 2 (such as e.g. "Turbo Booster" and , "The Forgiving Maiden") are changed to have Trigger Effects that activate at the end of the Battle Phase, except —except for "Crystal Beast Emerald Tortoise", which instead lacks that effect entirely instead.** Spell and Trap Cards that can only be activated during Main Phase 2 may have this restriction removed ("Emergency Assistance").* ;Due to each player only having 3 Main Monster Zones, the * The number of Token Monsters Summoned at the same time by card effects may be reduced, if they would otherwise not be possible to use ("Metabo Globster").* Due to each player only having 3 Main Monster Zones, Xyz Monsters that have a variable number of Xyz Materials but a maximum greater than 3 4 (such as e.g. "Hazy Flame Basiltrice" and "Shark Caesar") remove the maximum number, to remove the implication that it would be possible to use that many Xyz Materials for its Xyz Summon. ** Since there is currently no way to use cards other than monsters in the player's own 3 Main Monster Zones and 1 monster in the Extra Monster Zones as Xyz Material for an Xyz Summon, and the listed maximum materials was 5, this currently does not make any functional difference and is not indicated with the icon, although it was announced as a difference from the TCG/OCG upon these cards' releases.* Due to the placement of the Extra Monster Zones on the being in leftmost and rightmost sides of the fieldcolumns, Link Monsters with an effect that would Special Summon monsters to zones that it cannot point to, but whose monsters with both a left diagonal and a right diagonal Link Arrows are incompatible with at the Speed Duel field, remove same time at the requirement of Summoning to Zones it points same time. Link Monsters with effects that cannot be used without pointing to monsters with both left and right diagonals (such as e.g. "T.G. Trident Launcher", "Qliphort Genius", "Junk Connector")remove the pointing requirement from that effect.
