Electrodes

Electrodes, known as Amplifiers (増幅装置) in the Japanese version, are a kind of collar used in Underground Duels in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. When in use, a Duelist wears three; one around the neck, and one around each arm.

History[edit]

Electrodes were first shown when Zane Truesdale Dueled against Mad Dog in an attempt to gain more power. When a Duelist loses Life Points while wearing an electrode, a severe electric shock is sent through their body causing them great pain. After his Duel with Mad Dog, Zane used them again in a Duel against his younger brother Syrus.[1] While in the alternate dimension, Zane used them to take Doom Dozer down, before he ultimately destroyed it with "Cyber End Dragon".[2]

When Zane was starting to have heart problems, he thought at first that it was due to continued use of the electrodes. Much later, it was revealed his "Cyberdark" Deck was the reason behind it.[3]

Tag Force series[edit]

The Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's installments of the Tag Force games, features an Amplifier, which is a rare item that can be given to other Duelists as a gift. It is widely disliked, but certain anime-original characters are fond of the item.
