- This card can be searched by "Soul Rope", "Resonator Engine", "Vampire Dragon", "Summoner Monk" and another "Giant Rat".
- For any of the above monsters that have Flip Effects or high DEF, "Book of Moon" will prove invaluable, especially if your opponent attempts to pick off your new monster with a second attack.
- Use "Giant Rat" to summon "Black Stego" when it is attacked. It will go to defense mode, thus protecting your life points and potentially itself.
- To lengthen the cycle of stalling you can use "Giant Rat" 3 times, then "Warrior Lady of the Wasteland" 3 times for six stalls.
- Further, to protecting your Life Points, using "Spirit Barrier".
- Use this card with "Creature Swap". If "Giant Rat" gets destroyed while on your opponent's side of the field, he will still special summon a monster on your side of the field since he was sent to your graveyard. To get the most monsters out of this combo, have 2 copies of "Giant Rat" out, swap one, have them destroy each other then banish them both for a "Yellow Baboon, Archer of the Forest" while taking advantage of their summons.
- Other cards that can put "Giant Rat" into your opponent's controls include "Give and Take" and "Shien's Spy".
- Use "Giant Rat" to Special Summon "Pyramid Turtle" when it is destroyed by battle. Then you can Special Summon 1 Zombie-Type monster with 2000 or less DEF from your Deck.
- Use "Giant rat" to special summon "Madolche Hootcake"and provide a target in the graveyard for the special summon of another "Madolche" monster
