- Diabolos is Greek for 'devil'.
- This card’s Japanese name translates to "Demon King Diabolos". The Japanese names of this card, "Lich Lord, King of the Underworld" and "Prometheus, King of the Shadows" each correspond to the Japanese name of one of the three Deck Destruction Virus cards; in this case, "Deck Devastation Virus".
- "Diabolos, King of the Abyss" has a similar name to "Dark King of the Abyss". This might be because he was "Dark King of the Abyss" when he was demoted by "Dark Ruler Ha Des".
- The pose of this card is almost a mirroring pose of that of "Red Dragon Archfiend".
- This card's art is similar to "Dark Lucius" and its other variations.
- This card's Level, Attribute, Type, ATK, and DEF is identical to that of "Dark Armed Dragon".
- This card is one of the few Dragon types not to have "Dragon" or the "-ryu" suffix in its name.
- This card is one of the few cards to not have its devil horns removed. This may be because they are relatively hard to see in the card's artwork.
